His eyebrows knit together, and he shakes his head no, “You don’t need to fret over that, Elyria. Your smile is more than enough for me.” My cheeks burn from his kind words, especially as he says them in front of some of the closest people in his life. I grab one of the books out of the bag and say, “Well, Alpha, is it alright if I get to the office and to my reading?” I didn’t pay attention to what I was grabbing. As Atlas grabs the book and examines it, I realize what it is and regret the decision to grab a random book. It’s a romance book with a half-naked man on the cover, a girl in a skimpy dress, and a wolf in the background titled ‘Taming the Alpha. ’

It was torn into five pieces, random pages and bits of cover were scattered along the floor. Atlas had made his decision when he let Dean destroy my book, that much was clear. He had chosen her; his girlfriend of two years. Did that make him fully evil? Evil for choosing the girl he had loved for two years of his life? No, he wasn't evil. Cruel yes, but not evil. Mates were sacred, but rejections happened sometimes. "Take Michelle to the cafeteria, I'll be there shortly." Atlas nodded at Dean, and I wondered if his voice had always sounded that way. Silky yet rough, smooth yet raspy. I had heard his voice many times over the years, never once appreciating how it sounded.

But, a whole collection of a slave would be in fact more than abnormal. "Nyx, I'm serious." She whined. "No, you're not." I argued, shaking my head. "But, I am." She said, her tone firm and serious. "Really?" I teased, raising my brows. "Seriously, only your paintings are in the drawers and table of his usual desk." She spilled, making my heart take a flip. "I want to try reading this short story." Aurora said, showing me a little story book as she sat beside me. With nothing left to do, out of curiosity to see more of what Atlas has created I flipped through the pages of his journal, my excitement was short lived as I stumbled upon a shocking revelation.

I regret it a little. I picked up my book and moved closer to Atlas, resting my head on his shoulder. "Then I will be very hopeful today." The blowing wind brought Atlas' body fragrance and swirled around. I liked the scent that was thinly drifting up to my nostrils. I don't know what Atlas' face looks like right now, but I feel his touch on my head warmly. I enjoyed my time in that position for quite a while until I finished my book. Then Atlas takes turns leaning against me as the clouds begin to darken.

What I had with Tilly was real. "You should have married Cordelia instead," Atlas places his hand on my arm. "She would have liked you better. You loved her. I was mean and cruel to her. I'm a real bastard you know, when I'm mean." "You're a total jerk." I agree. "A real prick. A..." ": Hey," he stops me and then blinks, stunned as he watches something out the window behind me. "Clark, is that Cordelia?" I stand and turn around to look in the direction that Atlas is looking just in time to see her auburn brown curls swinging around her shoulders as the door closes behind her to the bank across the street.

I leaned back, steepled my fingers, and waited for the strike. Luca didn't look at his notes. He didn't look at Elena. He looked directly at me. "Atlas is an impressive piece of engineering, Aurelia," he began, his voice smooth and dangerous. "It’s a masterpiece of defensive programming. But that’s exactly the problem." I felt a ripple of tension move through my side of the table. My Chief Technology Officer, Sarah, shifted in her seat, her jaw tightening. "Explain," I said, my voice clipped.

Mira adds with a wink, dropping the books onto the table. Maximus growls. “Oh, relax. Your love interest is in safe hands. Atlas doesn’t fall in love,” she jokes. “What do you mean?” I ask quickly, my curiosity spiking. “She’s just speaking nonsense,” Maximus cuts in with a flat smile. I take a deep breath. I’m no fan of Atlas Lawson, but here I am, about to read every book written about him.

I moan, leaning into the toilet seat. “You can’t die.” Atlas says, holding my hair back as we sprawl across the toilet floor. He’s leaning his head on the wall and his eyes were closed the last time I looked at him. “I am.” “No.” “Everybody dies.” “When they’re old and boring. You’re neither.” “I will be one day.” “You’ll never be boring.” I snort. “That’s just your biased opinion.” “No, that’s a fact. It’s just who you are. One big mystery. Mysteries are never boring.”

"Yeah, I know. The thing is, there's nothing between us, not yet, maybe." Trevor leaned closer to Atlas and looked at him earnestly. "Do you like my sister?" Atlas nodded. "Of course. Who wouldn't? Beautiful, smart, funny, tough—only a fool wouldn't see all those qualities about her." "Hmm, that's just a standard cliche," Trevor muttered. "But, I mean, do you like Regina sexually, between men and women?" Atlas sighed. "I don't know yet. It's not easy for me, and you know why."
