Stealing Alpha's Heart
Ryder was silent for a minute and I thought he was mad, ready for him to storm off, muttering how I was insensitive, but he stopped, dipped his head low so I couldn't see the emotion swimming across his features, and stayed silent.
"Maybe," he whispered, his face still hidden behind his hair.
"Ryder, I didn't mean to - I just wanted to talk or help you," I started quickly, hoping I didn't trigger anything too deep.
"You're right," Ryder said and, for the first time since I met him, I heard something in his voice. A quiver - no. A crack - no. It was utter and terrible sadness that quickly turned into a sob as he tried to speak again, "You're right, Ruby. I do need to talk."
