“This could be a trap.” Ethan nodded, approaching the box slowly, his heart pounding in his chest. He reached out, his fingers brushing against the wood. He stretched out his fingers brushing against the wood. The minute he touched it, the runes on the box flared to life, shining with a spooky blue light. The ground underneath them started to shake, the air around them vibrating with a moo, inauspicious murmur. The whispers returned, louder and more wild eyed than before, filling the air with a cacophony of voices.

Remember you'll die, but you'll die a million times" I wondered if there were any correlations? But I wondered more, what the hell were all these things doing in Colin's house? The same for the walls of drawings? And drawings of only the Omega mark? Now this eerie box with a strange letter in front, and filled with maps marked out in red and signed in a crescent?

Silence settled over the room. We all exhaled. Then one box twitched. The smallest one. Wrapped in red paper with silver stars. It shook once. Paused. Shook harder. The wolves gasped and backed away. This contains all the information you require. When he opened the box, a small, elaborate knife and a collection of scrolls were visible. I could feel the weight of the secrets inside as the air grew heavy with an ancient force.

I followed his gaze and saw the movement in the shadows—infected, lurking just out of sight. There were more of them than I expected, their twisted, decayed forms blending into the wreckage around us. “Stay close,” Ethan said, his hand brushing against my arm as he moved forward. The first infected lunged at us with a guttural growl, and Ethan reacted instantly. His powers flared, a burst of energy knocking the creature back before it could get too close. The rest of the team sprang into action, weapons firing as the infected swarmed toward us.

I don’t know why, but something is rotten in my gut and it’s never wrong. We storm through the building, Roddy’s being the last room at the end of the long ass hallway. The door is locked and Grouch sticks his ear to it, then backs up and kicks it open. The immediate stench of death I know all too well hits my nose and I can’t believe nobody has noticed it. It’s at least fifteen doors from mine. Missile and Grouch storm in, but I can already see the lifeless body of Ryan “Roddy” Grimes on the bed. I step in the room and see a needle sticking right out of his fucking arm. His skin is already discolored, he’s been dead a couple days. And nobody even realized it. Some brotherhood we are.

The hycwen grunted when he saw Calhoun near him and tried to raise its arm and flick him away as if he was an irritating flea but it didn't even have that much of energy. Its eyes were filled with sadness, pain, and agony. And, Calhoun could see lingering traces of magic in them. Those eyes darted from left to right, trying to focus on who was in front of them. The eyes twitched violently when they registered it was none other than Calhoun standing in front of them and squinting his eyes to look straight into them, the eyes blinked, and before he could do anything the hycwen took its last breath. A shudder ran through its body before it convulsed and went deathly still.

He's a time bomb that can go off at any time. Santo slides open one of the heavy drawers of the solid oak desk and pulls out a brown envelope made of kraft paper. He clamps his cigar between his teeth and pulls out a series of photos he raises in the air. "Do you know what these are, Lulu?" he asks me, his eyes dark. His Italian accent is even stronger than I remembered and has the effect of an ice-cold shower on me. He terrifies me. I say no with my head. Santo gives me a smile that would horrify even the Devil himself. Then he puts his glass on the desk to grab his cigar and blows the smoke to the side.
