Cutler snatched Wilt from Raja’s arm. “Wilt, no!” Katie cried. The two crashed several meters away. Back on his feet, Wilt shot first with a stream of lightning. However, Cutler was unscathed as smoke rose on his chest. “I am the god of war, protection, and weather,” he stated. “Protection from weather, from thunder.” A pair of bronze knives materialized in his hands. “I’m ready for you this time.” Regardless that he was now lightning-proof, we were about to join their fight when he roared at the top of his lungs.

“Yes, my alpha?” The beta immediately appeared, since Curtis was a hybrid, half vampire and werewolf. It permitted him to shape shift into particular birds he wished to. He flew down towards the balcony and transformed himself from the bird to his normal self. Curtis landed on the cold marble floor and knelt in front of his master.

“I know Roo brought me back using some of his voodoo stuff. But he’s dead. I mean dead-dead. No one brought you back.” Curtis didn’t speak for a minute or two, a faraway look to his eyes. “That’s a good question,” he said slowly. “I know . . . there is a purpose to my being here. And before you ask, no, I don’t know what it is. I somehow just know.” He looked at Charley. “Maybe it’s something like what’s holding Easy Street here. Or Cassandra.” “Does that mean you are fucking working for that Voodoo bastard?” rumbled the Golem, shifting in the back of their borrowed ride.

I shoved the pictures back to him, infuriating him further. He grabbed my arm. “Do I have to remind you what this man did to our families?” Swatting his hand away, I took a calming breath. “I know what his family did. I was there.” Why the fuck was I defending Curtis? I didn’t mean to, but that was how it sounded when I emphasized on ‘his family’. That was what Spider thought too, because he jabbed on the stop button. He lowered his voice. “The Viper is furious.”
