Feeling my temper rise, I move to shove the papers off my desk, my hand reaching for a glass cup that was sitting nearby before whipping it across the room, the cup shattering as Darius’s voice speaks up yet again.

His eyes burned with a cold, terrifying anger. "You will not hurt my sister," Micah snarled, his voice a low, threatening growl. "And you will not hurt that boy. Release him now, Darius. Or I will show you what a Mooncrest Beta does when his family is threatened." Darius's face was a study in shock and disbelief. "You are dead. I killed you. I saw you die." You did not kill me, you only injured me," Micah said, a grim smile contorting his lips. "But you are a dead man, Darius. A dead man walking. You just do not realize it yet."

"You don't know anything about her. Or her dad." I leaned over the rail. "Jax, he's baiting you. Stay smart. We need him talking after, not broken." Darius bucked and reversed, pinning Jax briefly. "Her dad? The traitor who burned the labs? I know plenty. He died screaming your family's name." Jax flipped him off and rose, breathing hard. "Lies. He died fighting control freaks like you." He charged again, feral and relentless, landing combos that had the crowd on their feet. Darius took hits that would drop most men but kept grinning.

Marissa was expecting something else, she had to take him back to the warlock so they would examine the type of bloodsucker he was since Elijah said they weren't common vampires. Beckham stabbed Darius with a stake and his skin turned gray before he froze at the spot. Elijah pulled him into the dungeon before locking him inside. They hoped that when he woke up, he would be too weak to break out of there. His heart had already stopped before I could think of another way." "No," Luke murmured. "Not my son." He staggered as he walked toward the room. He let out a loud growl when he saw Darius lying lifeless on the bed.

Wayne murmured. “People don’t just stop being fathers.” Darius’s voice went low. “You don’t know what you’re talking about.” “Then tell me.” Darius stared at him for a long moment, like deciding if he should. Finally, he said, quietly, “She died.” “Your Luna?” He nodded once. “During an ambush. I was out trying to save the pack, and by the time I got back—” He stopped. His hands clenched, knuckles pale. “She was gone. She died protecting him.”

I found Darius in the courtyard, covered in blood that wasn’t all his, holding Elias who was shaking despite trying not to. “You’re okay,” Darius said the second he saw me, pulling both me and Aria into a hug so tight I couldn’t breathe. “You’re both okay.”
