I sighed in distress because, again, I had to worry about the second person since the mafia seemed to be quiet these days. “What’s wrong?” Lily asked, and I shook my head. “N-nothing, I…” “You don’t trust me?” “What, no.” “Then why don’t you tell me what’s bothering you—is it about the shooting for the other day?” "The one you think Damian is responsible for?” I rolled my eyes. Once again reading the note, 'The deceased's illegitimate daughter. And the man in a black shirt beside her was the investigating officer of the case. They are suspicious_ The rest is yours.' Reading, I crumpled the note, shoving it into my pocket before turning to the bartender.

The water is cold against my skin, I watch it wash me and wonder how it’d fair against the grime that seems to be sticking against me, this case and my fucking head. I steer clear of looking at Mateo’s face as we go back to pouring over the notes she had. Our knees bump in the small living room, and for once, I’m grateful for it. Behind the card there was a number and Jonathan's initials. I compared the signature and understood that the notebook had been his at some point. That could only be a terrible joke. A very ugly game. But I found myself flipping through the pages, trying to find Suzane's name. Maybe that was Jonathan's Death Note, his little reckoning notebook. But only Hunter was a well-known name for me. All the others were mere whimsical handwriting. I started thinking about the possibilities for that notebook to exist. If it were a list of traitors, then it would make sense for Hunter to be on it.
