Daniel Brooke heaved a small sigh of relief, “Did Kyle say anything?” Derek shook his head, “He is not opening his mouth.” Daniel Brooke’s face darkened, and his eyes went sharp as a blade. No one knew what was going on in his mind. After more than two hours of driving, the car skidded and halted in front of a deserted broken house located on the outskirts of the ‘X’ city. There were no other houses in that area. Many big and tall trees and thorny shrubs were making the area creepy. Sounds of crickets were loudly audible.

Greene’s Metal Salvage. I frown and tap the paragraph, reading a few lines of what appears to be a narrative detailing someone’s workday at Greene’s Metal Salvage, recognizable as our Greene’s Metal Salvage, which is on the other side of town by the lumber mill near Black Creek Bridge. Scanning the page further, I catch a reference to “Mr. Jingo’s County Fair.” Our Jingo’s County Fair? The one which comes every August? Intrigued, I flip ahead several pages, seeing references to Henry’s Drive-In, The Skylark Diner, Yellow Cab, Paddy’s Place, The Commons Trailer Park on Bassler Road . . .

Shen couldn’t believe how dark it was as he drove the rental car as fast as he dared around the snake like mountainous road of I-93 toward Phoenix. He’d driven the notorious Taconic Parkway from Queens to upstate New York on several occasions and thought its winding roads, threatening boulders, and speeding traffic couldn’t be topped; until now. Perhaps it was the mood he was in. He longed to be back in the arms of his new bride. He was foolish to leave her like he had.

They cruised through Meriden, passing within a couple blocks of her Aunt and Uncle’s house, then headed south on the picturesque, tree-lined Wilbur Cross Parkway. Dominic spent most of the thirty minute drive with his eyes half-closed in thought, so Leesa had no further chance to try to pry anymore information from him. In addition to the trip to the park to help her mom, she had been to Sleeping Giant a couple of times to hike with Cali and Stacie, so she knew the way. Even if she hadn’t, signs along the parkway alerted drivers to the proper exit.

Drex ordered. "Gosh, you are so annoying!" I muttered as I rushed away again. Drex smiled triumphantly as I disappeared. "Wait... there isn't even a chicken restaurant on Blue Diamond Road, is there?" Flo asked as he realized something. "Exactly. I told you, I wanted to play with her." "You’re unbelievable! I still need staff to help me, and you sent her away on a wild goose chase?" Flo grumbled. Drex just stayed silent, ignoring the lecture. Meanwhile, I hailed a taxi and headed to Blue Diamond Road. In my rush, I hadn't even checked the internet. I only felt the confusion sink in when I reached the destination.

It had a huge love shaped tree at the center with two chairs surrounding a rose decorated table right under it. Beautiful butterflies moved around. There were red heart shaped balloons laid on the ground, and roses created the pathway. The air smelled like it. “What the hell?” Had Irea lost her mind or something? Just then, a car came to a halt in the distance. Drex got out. He stared at the scene with something that looked very much like amusement. “Well this is interesting.” Ah, shit.

"Please do not go near the old Deering mansion on the ridge, or the local diner near the old rink. Also don't go near the former high school building downtown." Anywhere I thought I might run into anybody from the Deering family was a risk I wasn't willing to take. "No problem at all," the driver replied, tapping a few adjustments into his dashboard navigation system. "We'll take the outer road. It actually saves us about ten minutes of traffic near the old center." "Thank you," I murmured, leaning back against the seat.

And by the time we get out of that church with Ford screaming my name behind us, my screams and cries land on deaf ears. It takes almost five minutes for Drex to track where he parked his bike in the dreary woods. It takes him less than a minute for him to put me down as my heels sink into the ground beneath me. “Don’t even think about it. You run and I’ll chase, Sage. I chase you and I’ll hunt you down like an animal”, Drex growls, running a hand in his hair as he untacks two helmets from the handlebars. He’s right though, we are in the middle of the woods, the lowest place in Mallow Creek.

Draya said sadly. “I said stop the car!” The vehicle stopped abruptly and I hopped out of the car. The broken trees were smeared with the potential liquid called blood. My heart skipped a beat as I walked out onto the road and observed skid marks on the asphalt. I followed it slowly my chest rise up and down as small specks of blood lead the way. I paused at the edge of the treeline where a pool of blood soaked the earth. I bit back a cry of horror at the sight of mangled rain deer bodies wrapped around the metal of a small car.

The next morning, they went out to find a realtor and look for a house. To their disappointment, they didn’t find anything that would suit them. After a few weeks of house hunting, they finally found a house on the beach near Deer Creek Beach. Which was also in the state park. It was perfect for them, although they couldn’t move in right away, they had to wait for the current owners to move out.
