Clara's assessment from the developmental notebook: Jordi has seventeen words. Eight of them approximate. Noa has nine words. All nine exact. "She is already editing," Ethan says, reading this. "She has always been editing," Valentina says. "She edited the room before she had language. She will edit language before she has sentences."

he huffed and I made him a ‘what’ face. "Well, I've got piles since I also reviewed what our editors edited." I chuckled and he grabbed some files on his hand. Zach's reactions seemed like a déjà vu for something in a moment so I shook my head and focus on my burger until I'd had the last chomp. "Why are junk foods so good to eat?" I exasperate as I rubbed my tummy. Time for work again. "Take a look at these." He stared at the paper he is holding so I glanced at it. "These full marks right here are all wrong. The draft and the edited are the same, the misspellings are still present."

Please, i don't think i've said this since i started editing, but the OGs know that i'm very much open to suggestions and corrections, you can't possibly be more or say anything more ruthless than countless publishing agencies and editors i've had to work with. If you see an error, a repetiton, misspelling, cultural bias......please call me out, i've never left my country before so my knowledge on certain things are very limited to G*oogle and movies. She had a frown on her face. “What’s wrong?” I asked. “The article has been sent back to us for revisions.” “Revisions? Isn’t that normal?” I asked. She shook her head. “Not line editing. They want content revision.” “Why?” I demanded. “It was your interview,” she said. I fumbled, trying to think of what in my interviews could possibly warrant content revisions. “Were they too long?” I finally asked. “I interviewed an awful lot of the families, after all.”

He'd been editing the printed manuscript. The third pass. He'd done the first pass for content—making sure the recipes were accurate, that the instructions were clear, that the stories matched the food. The second pass for structure—the order of the recipes, the flow from one section to the next, the way the book moved through the seasons of a life. The third pass was for language: the places where the words were still not quite exact, the recipe instructions that had a gap between what he meant and what he'd written.

My hand gripped the printed proposal sheets so hard the edges crinkled. I turned to Jeff, the senior project coordinator, and asked angrily, “What is this? What happened to the original draft?” Jeff looked tired too. He rubbed the back of his neck and shrugged. “Elizabeth made changes late last night. She said it needed to be more ‘realistic.’” He shrugged. Of course, he knew what we had was better. I stared at the pages. The only parts that still carried my ideas were the actual designs. Everything else had been watered down into something mediocre and common.
