The Slap That Ended Us
After a long pause, his voice came through the phone, rough and raw.
My mind went blank for a second. Then it clicked. He was talking about my diary. I only ever had one, the one with the pink cover that Sally gave me when I was ten.
I treasured that diary. It was what started the habit, and I wrote in it for years. Every page was filled with my feelings for him. I recorded every little moment we shared, every second I spent loving him, down to the smallest detail.
I even used to imagine that one day, after we were married, I would give it to him as a gift. It was going to be my love letter to him, long and slow and built over a lifetime.
