Ciara’s POV I scurried through the tall grass as quickly as I could to reach the lake. I reach the pack border and lower myself to the ground into a large bush. I search for any sign of patrols by sniffing the air. A few moments later, three large wolves ran passed my hiding spot. I recognize two of them as part of our pack, but the third is a royal patrol guard. The royal guard stops momentarily and sniffs the air. I wiggle deeper into my hiding spot, holding my breath. I sigh with relief when he continues on his way. I tip toe through the shadows towards the lake; trying to keep my body as small as possible so I won’t be seen.

My breath hitched. White Paw had been a small pack with barely a city block of territory. That territory, though, was adjacent to both the Crescent Moon and Lunar Crater packs, who were much larger and notoriously competitive against each other. I’d been in the midst of wedding planning at the time that everything happened, but that didn’t mean I didn’t remember the headlines.

My heart pounded like a caged bird, caught between the stranger's warm palm and the cold tile wall. Footsteps echoed outside. "Emilia?" The voice called again, closer now. "We gotta move. You in here?" The masked man's eyes locked with mine, a silent command passing between us. Don't. Move. I nodded, barely breathing. The footsteps paused just outside the door. A grunt. "Nah, can't be. No broad's gonna hide in a john this long." Heavy footsteps retreated, followed by muffled conversation.

Ethan The forest welcomes me, a familiar embrace of pine and earth as my paws dig into the soft ground. Around me, five of my strongest pack members run in formation—their silver and dark-furred bodies weaving between trees with practiced ease. I lead them on the border patrol, my senses heightened in this form, alert to any sign of intrusion into our territory. My wolf revels in the simple joy of the run, the temporary freedom from human worries.

With the addition of this kindy to the existing two, the pack could now care for up to 350 pups at once a vital expansion considering how many little ones had arrived or were soon to come. Jason had spoken at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, holding Aurora’s hand the entire time. His speech was short but meaningful, focusing on the rebirth of the pack, the importance of community, and the future being built for the next generation. But behind his steady words and proud gaze, something still gnawed at him. Across the territory, beneath the cover of darkness, a patrol was moving through the southern tree line. Elle said and Kyle came out of the kitchen and walked towards Elle. "What's the problem?" He asked "She has a nose bleed" Elle said "My Pet?" Kyle said as he turned to Eva and Elle nodded "I'm not your pet Kyle" Eva said and Kyle smiled "Okk..Since you are not my pet, stop your nose bleed yourself" He said about to walk back to the kitchen when Eva said "Fine, fine, fine. I'm your Pet" Kyle had a small smile on his face when he heard her and said "Not convincing enough". Eva sighed and said in a playful voice "I'm your Pet. Your one and only Pet". Kyle smirked and walked towards her and held her hand as he went to where he kept the first aid.

I sternly said and they laughed which made me annoyed more. "A puppy always follows his owner. That's why you shouldn't drive him away. Right, Patry?" I heard Manager Zee tease and I was surprised to hear Patry bark. A puppy, indeed.

After about two hours of running around, catching some rabbits and watching Violet stop to smell literally everything, I was ready to get down to business. *Let’s go home and make pups,* I said to everyone. My brothers immediately began howling and I followed suit. Violet shook her head. *Catch me if you can, fluffy.* Fluffy! What the heck? Dusk growled, he didn’t want any cutesy little nickname. He was a warrior and he would let her know how rough he liked it. She took off running back toward our little house and I was delighted to chase her. So I think I will disturb the entry just a little, nothing that is too noticeable unless they are looking and allow one of the other patrols to find them. I head back to the barracks, climb in through my window, put my backpack into my small cupboard and then go and rejoin the search party I was teamed up with, luckily we had separated to do the search a bit quicker so my absence wasn't noticed. Just as I re-join my team, we all stop as we hear a really loud, sad and pain-filled howl echo throughout the woods, it is then followed by three more very loud howls in response and joined to the first one. Maverick is obviously dead, the poor sucker. He was a really good partner in both our patrols

Multi-colored flags flap in the light breeze along the park’s periphery and the pavilion itself is trimmed with floral studded swags and twinkle lights.
