The little girl’s eyes were wide, her small hand gripping Diana’s fingers tightly.
“Merlin…” she whispered, her voice uncertain.
Kelvin, on the other hand, had gone quiet, his eyes darting between the adults, sensing the tension even if he didn’t fully understand it.
Diana didn’t look at either child. Her eyes were fixed on Merlin.
“A mistake?” she repeated slowly, picking up on his earlier words. “You’re saying this is a mistake?”
Merlin ran a hand through his hair, frustration creeping into his movements. “I didn’t say that,” he replied, his voice low. “I just... this is complicated.”
