A lonely island surrounded by an endless sea of white mist. At its center stood a single lighthouse. Its light was dark. Not black. Simply... the absence of light itself. "No one has," the First Reader answered. "Every record of that place was erased." The city suddenly shook. Outside the windows... the stars began disappearing. Not exploding. Not fading. I feel him touch my cheek, but my eyes fight to stay open. He tries to pick me up, and I wince and groan when he touches my burns. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” he says, moving his hands to my neck and back of my legs, picking me up bridal style. I smell smoke and choke on it while he carries me downstairs. He holds me tightly, but slowly, I feel myself slipping—slipping away into the darkness. Martin’s next words become mixed and jumbled, but I hear: “No, Claire, please stay awake,” he begs, but I close my eyes, away from the fire, the pain, the smoke… into the darkness.

Sauliel leaned in and pressed a tender kiss to her cheek. A communicator played the latest news in the background. "The Alpha of the Moonshadow Pack, Alexander Steelclaw, was attacked by a group of rogue wolves. He died from his injuries." Alice paused for a moment. "In other news, Anna Darkfur—previously imprisoned for four years on charges of intentional harm—passed away today in the pack infirmary after prolonged suffering from wolfsbane poisoning." Alice continued eating. Her expression was completely unaffected by the news she heard. Sauliel gently wrapped an arm around her. "I'll be right here by your side for the rest of our lives."

As though Martin had no will of his own and I was the force that drew men toward me against their better judgment. The injustice of it hit me so hard my vision blurred. Martin opened his mouth to say something, but Cedrick's eyes cut to him and whatever Martin saw there made him close it again. The nausea that had been sitting in my throat all morning surged forward with a violence that caught me off guard, and the corridor tilted sideways, and the scrolls slipped from my arms and scattered across the floor. My knees buckled. The last thing I saw clearly was Martin reaching for me, and then the floor came up fast and the world went dark.

" My mother sat frozen on the ground, her gaze empty as she stared at the check. Samuel's silhouette faded away. The blood on my mother's arms and legs had turned to a dark crust. The relentless sun baked her, turning her skin a deep red. Time seemed to stand still until, at last, she stirred. She lowered her head and let out a cry of despair so raw, it echoed the pain of a creature in its final moments. "Yocelyn, how could you have loved a man like that?!" Beneath the harsh sun, I broke out in a cold sweat. My heart ached as I stayed by my mother's side, wishing I could wrap her in my arms and shield her from the world. However, to protect a man like that…

I just nodded, not adding anything else. We had just sparked up a fire to chase away the chill in our place when, out of nowhere, the power cut out. The room plunged into darkness, leaving only the glow of our stubborn little stove. Yvonne went off with the landlord to hunt down some candles. Wade was right on her heels, moving through the flickering shadows. I caught a glimpse of him trying to hug Yvonne, but she pushed him off in a flash. "Thomas isn't feeling great. You stay and take care of him," she said, her voice carrying just enough for me to catch it.

“It’ll be over soon.” The world goes dark. ………. My eyes flutter open, and flames dance around me, licking at the wooden walls of the shed. I try to move, but my body is sluggish, my mind foggy. “Help!” I scream, my voice hoarse. The fire roars louder, the heat pressing against my skin. My heart pounds as I claw at the floor, dragging myself toward the door. Who is Martin? Why did he do this? I cough violently, my lungs struggling against the acrid air. The heat presses against me, sweat pouring down my face. My body feels heavy, like it’s sinking into the ground.

That's one-h*ck of a climax. I had no idea what time darkness visited me, but when I opened my drowsy eyes, the sun rays were now peeking through the glass wall. The dark curtains were swiped open... and Martin's side of the bed was empty. He's gone!

He would ruin my mood. After dinner, I went to my cabin to rest but I woke up in the middle of the night. I couldn't sleep again so I just decided to go up on the top deck and get some fresh air. I hold onto the railings and stared at the dark sea in front. Even with the moonlight, the sea is still so dark. It looks so calm on the surface but who knows what are the dangers awaiting beneath it. Even if it's dangerous, I couldn't help but adore it. I wonder how Helion will kill me? Because if I will make the choice, I rather be drowned in such a wonderful sea. Dying under waters is everyone's horror, but for me I think it's a lot more noble. After all, dying in the place you love is better.
