Early Morning Riser Novels & Stories

I run before Eli wakes up. This is not new .... the early run has been part of my Cedar Falls life since the first year, when I discovered that the city between five and six in the morning belongs to a completely different set of people than the city at any other hour. Quieter people. People who chose the dark on purpose, who needed the hour before the world started asking things of them. I found my rhythm in those early miles and I have kept it .... down Fifth, across the green belt at the edge of the residential district, back up Marsh, home before Eli's feet hit the floor.

Isla’s POV Monday morning. 7:45 a.m. The front door slams hard enough to rattle the picture frames in the hallway, and I sigh into my pillow like I’m annoyed, but truthfully, I’ve been awake for a while. Probably longer than Shane has. He loves mornings. Loves routines. Loves feeling productive before the rest of the world even blinks. That man has been getting up early, making bottles, fixing breakfast, packing lunches, and corralling children since our first kid popped out like, Surprise! Hope you like responsibility.

Ryker I was dragging my ass the following morning, getting up and out the door before the birds had begun chirping for the day was a feat in and of itself for me. I had stayed up too late indulging in the delights my mate had to offer, not that I regretted a single second of my time spent in heaven between her shapely thighs. Never mind the tiny detail it was too damn early to be up anyway. I was not a morning person, and these crack of dawn patrols were speedily becoming the bane of my existence.

POV: Siena Blake The morning came too early. I opened my eyes before the sun even began to rise. There was no alarm buzzing beside me, no work shift forcing me out of bed, and no real reason to be awake so early—but my body wouldn’t let me rest. Sleep had slipped through my fingers like water in the dark, and no matter how tightly I closed my eyes, it refused to return.

**************** GREG: That is my definition of life up to this day, a Friday morning as I left my bed to the bathroom in the early hour of dawn. I have no record of how and when my system adjusted fully to the cockerel's hour without the sound of an alarm, but I continually look up to it. Waking up and leaving the house early to the bus stop where I could pick up the school bus before everyone else, is such a morning priority for me and I have never missed it.

JORDI ADKINS Waking up this morning was everything like having a feel good cold shower in the middle of the hot summer. This was definitely a different day for me because I just woke up fifteen minutes early before my alarm clock. That only happens seldom in my life and it’s either I just had a really horrible nightmare that I was scared to go back to sleep or that I’m feeling much excited over something else. It’s pretty much the latter for me.

They had agreed to meet at 3 AM, so she had woken up well before dawn, eager to start her day with a warm cup of coffee. POV Richard I woke up without waiting for the chimes of six o'clock in the morning, and without a doubt, there is no better alarm clock than the euphoria of a new day when the dream is close to becoming reality. It gets us in higher spirits than drinking a whole barrel of wine and sets us running just as if we were going to see the results of an important bet.

Saturday Morning The first light of dawn crept through the flimsy curtains of Kayla’s small dorm room, painting the walls with a soft, ethereal glow. The familiar symphony of birdsong outside, a chorus of chirps and trills, mingled with the distant, muffled hum of the awakening city, a low thrumming that vibrated through the floor and into the very bones of the building. Even without the jarring intrusion of an alarm clock, Kayla’s body, attuned to the rhythms of habit and routine, stirred from its slumber. Years of ingrained discipline had etched this internal clock into her very being, a reliable mechanism that roused her even when her mind craved the solace of sleep.

The early morning light filtered through the curtains as Sophia groggily navigated her way to the kitchen. Despite her accomplishments as a lawyer, there was one thing she couldn't quite master – getting up early. She had known since her school days that she was a night owl, and no matter how hard she tried, waking up early remained a daily struggle. Just as she was beginning to feel more awake, her phone rang, startling her.
