She laughs, it’s a good laugh, low and genuine, and then her eyes move, naturally, the way eyes do, to me.
She does the calculation quickly. I see it happen. Her gaze goes to me, then to Daxton, then back to Dante, and something adjusts in her expression, not hostile, just recalibrating.
“I’m sorry,” she says, pleasantly. “I’m Camille.”
“Eris,” I say.
“And who’s this?” she asks, looking at Daxton.
Daxton looks up from the decorative bowl he has been examining. “I’m Daxton,” he says. “I’m seven. We’re getting a bath mat.” He holds up the bowl. “Can we get this?”
