I think I had a vague idea of what he's saying. "You're right," he scoffed. "No matter how far we go, we're still under the same sky." The sky never changes, I thought. People do. People come and go. The sky never moves. It stands there, waiting. Still waiting.

“God, please, not here. I don’t want to fall. I don’t want my baby to die. Please… Please… Spare my child. Please…” I grabbed my chest, feeling the tightness as the pain continued to overpower my body. I didn’t know what else to do to steady myself. I couldn’t stand on my feet, and taking a few steps away from the railing also proved too difficult for me. How could I take a step when I couldn’t even move my body? I could see the cars speeding by on the road, and I was certain nothing would save me from turning into minced meat if I fell from here. Even if I didn’t fall on the road, there was no way I would survive a fall from fifteen storeys high in the sky.

Behind the color there was a deep endless black hole. Giant drops of ink began to fall like rain. "Run!" Maya grabbed Benson’s hand. They ran toward the surgical building. Every time Maya’s feet hit the ground it felt soft. The world was losing its weight. To her left a group of students turned into a pile of paper sketches. A sharp wind blew them away like trash.

The iron lever that had killed someone before started to move winding backward with a lot of tension. The countdown was inside the machine now and the press was getting ready to eject the sector from the mainframe. "Elara!" Julian shouted through the storm. "The anchor is slipping! The building is losing its place! We're falling out of the world!" The skyscrapers outside were moving, sliding across the horizon like a train car. The horizon was tilting. The sky was turning upside down.

Chapter Twelve The rain had been relentless all Friday. Sheets of water fell from the sky, drumming against windows and rooftops, as if the heavens themselves were mourning or warning. Nora sat in the art studio, trying desperately to focus on her presentation, but her brush hovered uselessly over the canvas. The colours and lines felt meaningless. Every stroke of paint blurred, smudged by the storm of emotions inside her.

They may not like me, but at least when they're near, other students can't kill me. Ahead of me, Rowan, Seyla, and Lyra, all link arms as they giggle in excitement. I slow my pace slightly to keep a distance. I don't want my sour mood to bring down theirs. I glance up at the night sky, and I gasp. I stop walking altogether as I take in the millions of stars lighting the sky. I almost forgot how beautiful the night sky is.

In an instant Mars disappears and I feel another wave of panic. “You cant get rid of me that easily.” I hear Mars say inside my head. “I would never dream of getting rid of you. Im afraid you have a life sentence with me.” I say back, the smile on my face not leaving anytime soon. The sky turns blood read and the ground begins to shake, then I feel myself free falling. The sky now starts to rain, the blood red rain comes down hard and fast from the sky. The ground beneath my falling body begins to flood. The level slowly starting to rise higher and higher and I feel that I am no longer falling.

In an instant, the speed of the three people's decline had increased several times. Evelyn screamed in horror and had no time to hate Catelyn. "Is the parachute broken? It's actually broken. We are done for. It's so high up here. Will we die if we fall from here?" Catelyn's face went pale. The parachute with a hole couldn't support the weight of the three of them at all now. White hot energy exploded through my skull then i screamed. The space around us shattered like glass and suddenly I was falling. Light spun around me, gold and white and blinding. Air rushed past me. My own voice echoed in my ears—raw, ragged and breaking. A shape appeared below. Dark, solid and approaching fast. The platform. I was falling back toward it—hurtling from the sky like a meteor.
