In my previous life, I had read about it weeks after it happened, a collapsed empire, a CEO who had fought alone and lost, a company destroyed and absorbed by people who had been circling it for years. But I was a year earlier now. The collapse hadn't happened yet and I knew exactly how to stop it. I stared at the screen, my thumb hovering over the article. He had dark eyes and a llittle girl with a stuffed rabbit asking if I was okay. Marcus Donovan. I opened the article and started reading.

I did not even bother finishing the voice messages before blocking and deleting him from Instagram entirely. Outside my door, my mother was urging me to buy winter clothes with her. “Winter in the Capital City is pretty cold. We’ll go and get you a few thicker outfits.” I nodded and agreed. What I did not expect was that after buying clothes on the second floor of the mall, we ran into Joel and his group just as we were about to leave. Mandy stood out in a black micro-miniskirt among the boys. She spotted me immediately and walked over slowly, deliberately linking her arm through mine with feigned intimacy.

The day I left the hospital, the weather was obnoxiously perfect. I wore a crisp white suit—tailored sharp—and cut off the long hair I'd kept for Carlo all those years. The short, clean chop felt like shedding skin. Enzo, my assistant, opened the car door for me. As I slid into the back seat, he launched straight into business. Our consigliere says they'll be bankrupt by the end of the week."

Her eyes filled with venom as she aimed for Noelle. Noelle held onto Winter's hands with all her might, pulling with all the strength she could muster. In that instant, Noelle let go, and Winter, caught by surprise, stumbled as if something had tripped her and crashed into the sink.

They didn't have much to take with them , so packing didn't take a lot of time . Nora shakes her head , moving forward slowly in pain . Her face however , remains plain and devoid of any indication . A tissue in her hand , she wipes away the blood on her mouth along with the trickling from her nose . For a second , Nova watches and flinches in her stead , feeling sorry for the pain she had to endure . She felt that she should have never allowed her to do it . Bringing her attention back to the phone , she sighs with relief when she notices that it isn't secured with a passcode . Now all she has to do is , d******d the GPS app so they can navigate their way out of this hidden town safely .

“You have forty-eight hours before Julian reboots the network. After that, every rogue he’s modified will come online. Thousands of them.” She tossed the drive back. “You didn’t get that from me.” “Nova,” Dante said, meeting her gaze. “Thanks.” She smirked again. “Don’t thank me yet. I expect payment. Preferably in not getting my place blown up.” Outside, the night was cold. Aiden zipped his jacket as they walked. “She’s right, you know. The Council hub’s impossible to breach.” Dante smiled without humor. “Impossible’s becoming our brand.”

“Come out to breakfast, for Christ’s sakes! It’s 11am. I’m hungry!” Fredrick and Avery laughed cheerfully, at Noah’s dramatic reaction. “Let’s go…” Fredrick said, leading her out of the room. As they went down the stairs, Fredrick could hear Noah’s voice at the dining table, “I’m scarred!” “No, you’re not!” Fredrick exclaimed from upstairs. “You have eleven more days, by the way.” “Aaaaarghhhh!!!” Noah groaned. “It’s winter, I couldn’t possibly find anyone right now. The streets is dry!”

Password protected. I typed in Nova’s birthday and it opened. There were three video files. The first was a boardroom. Noah was younger, more corporate, and cold. “She’s efficient,” someone said. “She has no heart,” Noah replied. “I don’t want a formula. I want a family.” The second was just him, alone, staring into the camera. “If you’re watching this, I failed,” he said. I held my breath. “I never meant to fall in love with her. They warned me told me she’d complicate everything but Grace… you made everything clear and I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner.”
