It’s late — close to ten, maybe later. My room is dark except for the dim yellow glow coming from my bedside lamp. I’ve been trying to sleep for hours, but my body refuses to rest. The smell of cold metal, that faint lemon cleaner, and something darker beneath it. fear.

POV Sammy I let what Cash's friend and Locke had told us sink in. If they were telling the truth, Kitty was in more danger than we thought. This trip was only going to take a couple of days. Luckily, the Vampires had a road system cleared the entire way down since they had been clearing roads since the start of the Nightmare. They used them to find humans that wanted to be turned. I realized that they were probably taking some humans to feed off of since we all needed blood but I didn't want to think about that part. I couldn't.

The yellow rays of the sun shined on my eyes through the wrecked window of my room. I was sleeping peacefully until I heard the footsteps rushing towards my room that shook my entire body, and my sleep went out of the window. The fear of getting caught took over me. Caught by him. I quickly pulled out my gun, which was under my pillow. Climbing off the bed, I stood in front of the closed door of my room with my gun fixed on it. "Andrea," shouted Claire from outside. Her voice calmed my racing heart and relief flooded through me. I lowered my gun and walked to the door. Claire’s worried eyes met mine when I opened the door.

I darted my eyes away quickly-- "You promised," Al said all of a sudden. "What?" I paused in surprise. "No question asked," Al smirked, holding out his hand to me. I was grateful that he didn't ask into it. Night fell. So the thing about horror stories is that-- The fear kicks in only at dark nights when you are alone, not when you are at the crowded theater or on the bright street. Meaning-- I couldn't fall asleep that night. Turns out it's a bit hard to fall asleep when you don't close your eyes because you feel the need to stare at everything with alert.

I feel Felix’s arms tighten around me before he yells over the roaring engine. “We have company!!!” he shouts, fear emitting from his voice. I look at my side mirror and am baffled at what I see. Leonidas is sprinting towards us – my heart leaps from my chest, and fear washes over me. His eyes are glowing a dangerous crimson color, his fangs extended, claws digging into his palms. I feel every step he takes, as it feels like the very earth is shaking. His muscles ripple as his feet hit the ground – my heart thumping from fear, yet I can’t help but acknowledge the thrill and excitement it started in me. I watch as his figure closes in on us through the side review mirror.

The thought of confiding in Luna or anyone else filled me with dread, the fear of judgment and disbelief paralyzing me with uncertainty. As the night wore on, I huddled in my bed, haunted by the echoes of his menacing words. Sleep eluded me, my mind consumed by a relentless cycle of fear and despair. In the silence of the night, I felt utterly alone, trapped in a nightmare from which there seemed to be no escape.
