“Change.” My brows scrunch. “What?” He sets the shopping bag down slowly like they were fragile before leaning against the edge of my table and damn....he looks so good. “You’re my plus one, Kratoska.” He cocks his head, voice deepening. “My date.” I felt my belly flutter with excitement and also nerves. “Your plus one?” He nods. “There’s a fundraiser dinner. Bratva business that involves powerful faces and important investors.” Just from hearing the word ‘Bratva’, my stomach twisted into knots as the contents of the flash drive flashes into my head.

Brady: “Hey, I know it’s early but I saw Alexander leave your place looking upset again. You okay? I can bring breakfast if you want company.” I stared at the message for a long time. Brady was kind and steady. He didn’t come with blackmail and secrets and waking up in other girls’ beds. But he also wasn’t Alexander. He wasn’t the one who made my heart race and my body come alive. He wasn’t the one I was willing to risk everything for. I typed back: “Thanks. I’m okay. Just need some time alone today.” Brady replied: “Understood. I’m here if you change your mind.”

He felt a sudden agitation stir within him at the mere brush of their skin. The smirk on Brady’s face diverted Rye’s attention. “You are just like a chicken that can’t even lay eggs. He hated it, hate that Jemma went through all of this alone and I I know he wishes he was there to help her and just kill that fucker million times for what he did.

Brady looked at his phone on the floor, a look of fear in his eyes. What did the message just now mean? Who sent it? Why did they say that he and his family should pay the price? As Brady was thinking about this, his phone vibrated again. He hesitated for a moment before picking it up and reading the message. [Brady, are you scared now?] Brady froze.
