I pulled myself up onto the flat surface of the island, and immediately felt my resolve buckle. The sources of light I had seen were bodies. Lifeless charred shapes of men still on fire. I fought back the urge to vomit. I just had to hope that one of them wasn’t Jack. A new burst of fire surged from the sky and I looked at where it was being directed. My heart stopped as I caught sight of the flaxen coloured wolf darting out of the way. It was Danny.

He laid his glasses down on the desk in front of him and rubbed his tired eyes. The crackling of flames could be heard as the city burned all around them. The blood curdling screams of the men in the streets where they died was enough to make the blood of the fiercest warrior run cold, but he was a man of empathy and it hurt him more than it did the others.

*Spark* When the twigs finally caught fire, Frowning Tiger tossed them onto the tree, and it began to burn. Frowning Tiger, Rash Tiger, Samoa, and Joe all watched as the snake hissed in pain from being roasted alive. The flames covered the pitiful creature mercilessly and burnt away its scales. It was being burnt alive. For minutes they watched, none of them feeling any remorse or pity. They just watched it burn alive.

Poppy lowered her head in embarrassment. “I read some old books at home, so I know the name of the beast. The book describes a burning sensation and the feeling of being struck by a thunderbolt when we approach the beast. If the beast looks like a cow, it has to be the Fiery Thunderbolt Cow!” Tory was surprised that Poppy was so knowledgeable. “However, it’s just my guess. It doesn’t prove anything,” Poppy explained awkwardly, afraid that she could be mistaken.

I fought to control the car, spinning through flames and smoke, gripping the wheel with every ounce of strength. After what felt like forever, no rescue came. Only Thomas’ mocking voice, saying, “So, what now, babe? All the nearest rescue teams ran. They’re pulling the fire brigade from the city. “Even then, it’ll be at least half an hour. The sun is setting real low and the beauty of ranch field is stunning. A ranch worker brings Starry and a black stallion over to where we are.
