It was hungry. The flames roared behind us, devouring the dry forest in seconds, the sky above turning black with smoke. Every gust of wind sent embers spiraling into the air, carried on the back of a storm that seemed hell-bent on chasing us down. The heat was unbearable, like standing too close to an open furnace, and the air was thick with the acrid stench of burning wood and ash.

It was pointless anyway, to burn the book. It is the book of origin, a book written by the Gods, it is protected from being harmed by anything, by anyone.

I thought as my head turned to a small window in the room. I saw smoke. I ran towards it, and there I saw the book being burned in a small fire. I quickly ran outside, but it was too late when I got there. Fire consumed the entire book. Madison had burned the book. I cried. How will I ever learn about my pack and my mom anymore?
