“We both know you wouldn’t dare.” “Try me,” she whispered with a wicked smile, then kissed him hard. Their bodies moved with practiced rhythm. This wasn’t love,it was lust, greed, and power games all wrapped into one heated exchange. Clothes flew off. Moans filled the room. And when it was over, they lay there breathless, not from emotion, but from the thrill of getting everything they wanted without consequences. Their bodies trembled with the aftershocks of mourning, but slowly, slowly the sobs dulled into silence. The sun dipped. The sky blushed, then dimmed, then deepened into velvet black. They didn’t notice. They couldn’t feel time. Until the first glow sparked. And then another. And another. Fireflies. Dozens, then hundreds, rising out of the grass and hovering in a shifting veil of golden-green light over the mound where their son lay. The blossoms shimmered under their glow, the tiny lights flickering as if answering some unseen call. Alaric’s throat burned as he leaned closer to Kael’s ear, whispering softly, “Look. I had spent so long trying to open the door. Why hadn’t anyone told me the building closed so early? Some taxis drove past, some with passengers, some without. If luck was on my side, I might catch an empty one. I decided to walk, hoping to flag a taxi along the way. On a dark stretch of road lined with trees and no street lamps, I noticed tiny lights flickering near the ground. Fireflies. I stopped walking and smiled wide, the magical sight lifting my spirits for a moment. Mommy used to say that fireflies were fairies who granted wishes during a full moon. I looked up and clapped my hands in delight—tonight was a full moon, glowing red and mysterious.

She is in my past now and if I have any plans of moving forward, I have no choice but to let her go forever. I like to think of fireflies escaping in the night with their wings stretched in the air without fear. I like to think of butterflies too as I said earlier but I think i prefer fireflies more. Insects are wonderful little creatures that moves in an orderly manner I presume. Take a look at soldier ants. Do they not march in a single file, persuading each other to keep up the hustle and never get tired? I won't think of soldier ants marching in a single file when I go to bed today neither will I think of fireflies or butterflies flying freely in the air with outstretched wings. Rather,
