Flowers Are Bait Chapter 20 Novels & Stories

He watched as she climbed the cliff again, his sharp eyes wide, tracking her every movement, scanning the surroundings as if he could ward off any danger just by sheer focus. This time, Cara reached the plant without trouble. Clinging tightly to the rock with one hand, she stretched the other out, fingertips grazing the vivid red petals that shimmered under the silver moonlight. Only then did she realize there were actually three flowers on the bush. One was still a tiny bud, barely noticeable unless seen up close. Carefully, she plucked the fully bloomed flower. Then, with a bright, triumphant smile, she held it up for Grey Wolf, proudly showing off her prize.

"What do you mean? You—" "The flower," Gloria cut me off, "blooms at the far end of the swamp. It’s there, waiting for you, but not for the reasons you think." She paused, letting the words sink in. "I control its fate, and through it, I control Zone’s." My breath caught in my throat. "What are you saying?" "You came here to save him, but you’re only digging his grave," Gloria smirked. "Now, go. Get the flower. If you can, I’ll allow you the antidote. But beware—the waters are evil."

To make me question myself until I can’t tell up from down. Because that’s what he does. He breaks people. He’s breaking me. I bite my lip, my fingers tightening against my knees. He’s planning something. He has to be. The flowers are a message, a warning, a distraction—something. They’re not just flowers. Not with Matteo. He doesn’t leave things up to chance. And yet… I glance at the flowers again, their colors soft and unassuming. They make the room feel less like a prison, less suffocating.

The fact that Phoenix had to fight the last group of hunters without her help made the situation many times more dangerous and deadly. Rowena bent down instead of answering me. She plucked a flower bud from the ground. “These wouldn’t bloom for a few more months.” She said as she raised the flower for me to see. Then I felt a warm draft. It was faint and barely noticeable, the kind of thing that I could easily pass as my own imagination even. The flower immediately began to move. It opened right before my eyes and beautiful colors were revealed. It was a pretty sight, but it only lasted for a few seconds. Soon, the flower began turning black and it bent down after died. After that, it disint

I don’t move, or breathe. Alarik is in a frenzy behind my eyes, begging to take over, to tear Aiden apart before he can get a single word closer to my mate or my daughter. But I can’t let him—not yet. Not with the odds stacked against us. Aiden smiles wider, tilting his head like a predator admiring the weakness of its prey. “Looking for this?” he asks, nodding to the flower just inches from where I stands. “Such a sweet, desperate little quest you’re on. But you really didn’t think I’d just let you walk away with it… did you?”

My central nervous system was collapsing into total dark-mode. My eyes locked onto the empty glass container on the iron table. The water had been heavily laced with a high-grade military paralyzing sedative. Desperate to maintain a single line of defense, I bit down on my lower lip until the metallic taste of blood burst across my tongue, but the chemical tide was absolute. I tried to unleash a territorial roar, but the output emerged as nothing more than a broken, breathless whimper against her shoulder. "Mother... did your line... drug my wolf?"

mocked an evil voice suddenly. Alinta fearfully looked in the direction of the voice and saw Orion fondling himself with a lustful sneer as he stalked her in a relaxed manner. Startled by his reveal, Alinta instinctively started to get up, when suddenly the flowers crept around her arms and ankles, pulling her down. She attempted ripping at the plants, but her whole body was overtaken, and forced to the ground on her back between the moonflowers.

Their plan was a simple one – Flora would act as bait, luring the attacker out in the open. There was very little that could go wrong since it was so straightforward. She knew this but every muscle in her body tensed with a cocktail of apprehension and anticipation. Feigning deep concentration, she flipped through the pages of her book, her eyes barely registering the words. Silence stretched, punctuated only by the distant chirping of birds and the rustle of leaves in the breeze.

When I open my mouth, I am even shocked at the immense calm that accompanies my words. “How did you manage for her to slip away from your fingers? In a place where you’ve had her surrounded?” He splays his fingers to gesture. “Like a poof of air…she vanished. I can’t believe you, Je…Jay. They have been messing with that flower for years, you know what it can do.” My hands curl into a tight fist, my fingernails digging crescent ridges into my palm to hold back the scalding heat roaring through my veins.

His hand moved closer, pressing the seed against her palm where it felt icy and uncomfortable. She jerked her hand away, tossing the seed aside. It struck the soil and rolled. In an instant, the ground shuddered as the seed sank deep within. A stem shot upward, and a flower blossomed—blood-red and throbbing like a heartbeat. The sight made her stomach churn. "No! No, Stop…" Her father's laughter echoed through Vincent's voice. "See? You can't even refuse me properly. Even your refusal brings forth life when I command it."
