He finally turned to the rest of our friends. "Mac this is the rest of our friends. That's Hound and Don, aren't they cute?" I began. Don and Hound waved at Mac and he waved back. "This is Foxy but hands off. She's Scarlett's gal." Cassy took over and Foxy blushed as Mac shook her hand. "And that's Jackal and Wolf." V rushed through. I chuckled as she mostly ignored the boys. Jackal looked upset but Wolf was pissed. I knew that he wasn't happy about the way I greeted Mac.

“She is the blade in a war she does not understand. She thinks blood can be cleaned with soap and a smile.” “Leave her out of this,” Frankie snapped. “She is not your toy.” Marco’s grin got colder. “You do favors, Frankie. You move men, you hide men, you lend hands. Do you think you can run your family like a church? But church is an expensive word around gangs, and I collect tithes.” I heard the spit of a shell clip dropping somewhere behind the bar. People pressed their faces against corners and watched. The bar looked like a stage with actors who had not agreed on the script. Frankie’s chest rose and fell fast. I caught his eye, and I saw something like pleading.

Entering the livingroom, Frankie sits there, his facial expression matching his mates as he observes me closer. His head tilting in the same exasperating way hers did early. No wonder they’re paired together for all eternity, their mannerism so similar it’s uncanny and slightly creepy. Frankie’s eyes practically bulging from the sockets, his eyes shifting rapidly between the three of us standing in the entrance. A glare from his mate has whatever he wants to say, staying firmly in place. Did I magically turn in to an alien overnight? What the hell is everyone’s problem? “Alpha’s, you there?” Xander asks, wrapping his arm around me, as I bury my face in his chest, not caring about the others

I look up, expecting to see Giovanni looking apologetic but it’s not him; instead, it’s Frankie. He’s taller than Giovanni but with the same build. His skin is slightly tanned, with the same dark hair slicked back and piercing Vittori blue eyes as his brother. The only difference is Frankie is tattooed right up to his neck and the tips of his fingers. He sees me sitting there and winces when he notices the uneaten food. “Gio didn’t let you know he wouldn’t be home?” he asks, and I nod. “Ouch. Mind if I eat this?”

Nixon saw me and instantly handed me a bottle of beer to which I popped using my teeth. “Where’s Darren?” I inquired hoping Darren finally decided to join us. “I don’t fucking know. He’s probably down on his knees praying to the lord right now.” “Yeah, I guess so.” “You’ve got to follow me man. I’m going to introduce you to some chick.” Nixon bellowed and before I could even say no, he already pulled me near this couch. “This is Francine. Francine, this is my friend Xavier.” “Hey there cutie.” The woman named Francine slithered her way towards me grabbing me by the hand.

Jax shifted his attention to Mac now, not without misgivings. Mac was one of his closest friends, sure, but he was also dismissive of anything even remotely approaching a romantic commitment. Mercilessly, he teased and tormented Jax about Sarah, and King about Naomi, and Aidan about Gabi, and as the last single man standing in the group, he seemed happy as hell to be that way. The thought of what Mac might have to say about an engagement and marriage made Jax tense up even before the other man had opened his mouth.

Crystal River Pack Shane was making coffee for the veterans’ group that met every Sunday at the community center. There was a second pot for decaf because two of the female veterans were pregnant.
