Some asked me how I was doing, and I replied that everything was fine on my end. Mom and Dad prepared a grand feast for me. They stayed home for a couple of extra days before leaving for their work again. From that day on, a mountain of gifts would appear at my front door daily. They were all sent by Joseph. Frustrated beyond belief, I threw all of them away. I wondered if Joseph didn't understand what I told him. All he had to do was leave me alone. I would shine like a star in this life, and didn't want to get involved with useless people. Perhaps realizing that I was throwing them away, Joseph eventually stopped sending the gifts.

I raised my hand, instantly conjuring several pieces of parchment that reeked of a foul stench. Smack! I slapped the papers across her face. The foul stench of voodoo magic hit the air. "Look at what this is." I stepped closer, my voice echoing in the yard. Gene frantically grabbed the papers. As she read the text, her face went totally white, and she backed away like she had seen a ghost. "This is rock-solid proof of you embezzling from the vault to buy voodoo blood potions for Alistair on the black market," I ruthlessly tore off her final defense. "A smuggling tab of seventy thousand gold coins. Every single transaction, clear as day."

I had hollowed out my womb to make room for his ego. "No," I whispered to the empty car, the word surprised me. "No," I said again, louder this time. I can’t do it. I couldn't be the graveyard for his mistakes anymore. I couldn't walk into another clinic and let them scrape away the only thing that was truly mine. This child didn't ask to be created in the dying embers of a doomed relationship. This child is innocent and maybe, just maybe, this was God’s way of giving me back what I had lost.

While I was looking at everyone, I noticed my mom looking at me and she put her eyebrow up. “What?” I asked her. “Pick a person already. Make them sad and then make them happy. Then let go of it.” Mom instructed. “He has a Spirit Affinity then?” Rose asked my mom. “Yes, he’s been sitting there playing with it.” She smirked and shook her head. I decided to use Eros. He was the God of Love so if I could make him sad then everyone would know. He must have guessed what I was about to do. He got a huge smile on his face and crossed his arms over his chest.
