His scream had been primal—a sound he hoped he’d never have to hear again. Even now, the memory was a clawing terror. Therapy had finally subdued the nightmares six months ago, but it did nothing for the gaping, empty space in his chest.

I don’t know what the lot of them have seen because his back was turned to me, but there was no doubt it was something scary. The fear in their eyes said so. Van stood abruptly, shooting Danny a glare which probably was meant to intimidate him. Danny didn’t even flinch.

The trailer that began playing made Danika’s stomach drop instantly—dark forest, screaming girl, sudden flashes, eerie music. Her head snapped toward Dante. “No. No, no, no. Please tell me that is not—” “Horror,” Dante said simply, taking his seat like it was nothing. Danika stared at him in horror. “You brought me to a horror movie?! I hate this!” Dante’s lips curled slightly. “I know.” “You—are you insane?” she whispered, already backing away toward the aisle. But the lights dimmed completely before she could escape. The movie started.

Damon and Ghost stepped from the shadows like two creeping grim reapers. Damon’s brows vanished into his hair, which hung over his forehead in sweat-damp waves, while Ghost grinned like a cat that got the cream. “Sorry,” he held his hands up. “I couldn’t resist.” “Fuck you.” I panted, then spun around only to find myself half a centimeter away from a distorted shadowy face. “AGH!”
