That was why, even when everyone said he was dead, I stubbornly refused to leave that belief behind. In the end, though, nothing could survive the fickleness of the heart.

It was agony not knowing, but I busied myself with my duties. Opening the door, I felt the coldness hit me. It was like a freezer in here, and only Healing-Frost and the egg could handle the temperature. Putting aside my discomfort, I move over to Healing-Frost and look down at the constantly wiggling egg. “It is so close to hatching now,” Healing-Frost said as she looked down at me. There was silence for a moment before she shifted into a more human form. Her long, snow-white hair reached her knees and fell in graceful natural curls. Her eyes were an icy blue and her skin was almost as pale as her hair.

I couldn’t say no to them, and as much as I loved working with the kids, I also loved watching Patrick have fun with them and make them laugh. Shaking his head slowly he said with a playful smile, “You can be the first but you will have to fight and win Boris.” Cooking my eyebrow I asked curiously who Boris was. Frost climbed out of the river chuckling. After he dressed he leaned his face before mine and I could see the stubble on his chin. “Boris is my pet polar bear,” he said and I snorted while I laughed but then paused.

I muttered and walked to the room where Alex was resting. “Susie…” I called out from the doorway but she didn’t respond. She sat there frozen like a statue…It was then I noticed that tears were streaming down her cheeks. “Susie… Is everything alright?” I asked again but she didn’t reply. I felt panic rise within me and I rushed to see why she was crying. My jaws hung open and my eyes widened in horror as I took in the sight in front of me. This time Alex was literally frozen… layers of frost had formed over his body and it seemed to harden by the minute. His eyes seemed lifeless… his face and lips were covered in a thin layer of frost too.

*************************** After the snow stopped, we headed outside, we decided it's time to play, and build a snowman, been a long time since I've done that. Just ice and shadow, a creature carved from a glacier, his eyes burning blue-white in a face that wasn't quite a wolf's. The temperature dropped with every step he took, and my claws cracked the frozen ground.
