He smiled, kissed my cheek, and as we walked, we heard shouting from another part of the park. We saw a small cart on fire. A few minutes later, we heard sirens. A large fire truck arrived, and the big men riding it got out. They were calm, and I was amazed by their looks. I didn't expect to see something like this. They looked like movie stars!

The fireman nodded his head and then barked, "Lark, get the drug kit and test it." Lark? My gaze instantly moved to the tall fireman, and it was met by Tristan's green gaze. I didn't know he volunteered for the fire-station. His gaze did a cursory once over, checking to make sure I was okay, before turning to get the kit. "Got it chief," he called over his shoulder, disappearing out the door. "These things are normally false alarms," the chief started explaining, leading me over to one of the chairs and had me sit down. "It is usually a prank or a scare tactic. The substance is usually flour or some kind of household good that is not harmful."

I'm sure they are sick of having to come out here. It takes hours to get through all the statements and legal mumbo jumbo when we are escorted to the station. I am antsy and despise the thought of Creature being stuck in the hallway. When we are allowed to leave, we are set back out at the remains of the house as fire fighters babysit the fire. They soak the area around the house, but make no attempt to save the house. I smile as it crackles and wood pops. I toss a stone at it and the firemen laugh and kick dirt and gravel at it, visibly relaxing when they realize I also wanted this house destroyed.

“Yeah, that’s good enough. See that big old car? You know an old person lives there. It’s a grandpa car. We put it on his doorstep. He’ll stomp on it. It’ll be great!” So, our two idiots took their sack of poop, poured lighter fluid on it, and walked up the steps to the old man’s porch, lit the sack on fire, and rang the doorbell. And, of course, they were right. He came to the door, saw the bag on fire, and stomped on it… barefoot! “Ha-ha-ha-ha, that’s the funniest shit I ever saw! Get it? Funniest shit?” laughed Paul.

“Safe zone? How can there be a safe zone? Fire doesn’t just stop burning.” The soldier slapped the other against the back of his head, “your momma must have dropped you on your head. Why would anyone give you the job to pour gasoline? With your brains, you’ll probably set yourself on fire.” “Just tell me, dickhead.” The smart soldier sighed, “we’ve already set small fires in that area a few days ago. There’s nothing left to burn. Firefighters do it to prevent the spread of wildfire.” I needed to go. There was no telling when they would start eating their food and how crazy everyone would start acting.

There's that disgusting smell again, Jake sneered. When Lainie shifted back, she patted Isaac's head. "I'd be careful what you say. Some might think you've lost your faculties and have you committed. It's been known to happen around here." She stood, her hand back on her gun. "Now, turn over." With her other hand she pulled out some handcuffs. Jake slid his paws off the kid but didn't move just in case Isaac tried to run. He didn't. Firemen rounded the corner with a long hose just as Lainie cuffed the other kid's wrists. The bears lumbered off into the woods, but weren't out of sight before the firemen appeared, ready to put out a fire already extinguished.

As I was about to open my mouth again, I was interrupted by the voices that had grown more terrifying. “Run!” They cried. “RUN!” In a heartbeat, the cold air was replaced by a sudden wave of searing heat, prompting me to spin around and face the horrifying sight before me. The manor, where thousands of Farsuleias had left a mark on the history of our lineage, was now consumed by a raging inferno, its flames eagerly dancing upon the foundations. My breath caught in my chest as I watched the fire's voracious hunger devour everything in its path.
