Long enough for me to remember who I was before I met him. Turns out, I actually like romance novels. Not the tasteful literary romances Kenneth approved of. I’m talking absolutely shameless books with shirtless men on the covers, morally questionable billionaires, ridiculous amounts of tension, and enough spice to qualify as attempted arson. The kind Kenneth used to wrinkle his nose at. “Those books rot your brain, Jo.” Funny. I don’t think the books were the problem. I’ve also rediscovered cheesy rom-coms and psychological thrillers, all the goodies that Kenneth never agreed to watch with me because they were “too stupid” (the romcoms) and “too complicated” (the psych thrillers).

"This isn’t a romance novel, Nanny. This is my life, and I’m just trying to do my job without embarrassing myself." Nanny laughs, clearly enjoying this way too much. "Oh, Isa. You’re making it sound like it’s the worst thing in the world. Just imagine it—a forbidden workplace romance, secret glances, and the tension! Oh, how thrilling! The babysitter and the boss. “Just something to keep your raging mind focused during the trip.” A small laugh left her throat, just loud enough for my ears. The screeching sound of tires and the chatter of other students drowned her laughter. “You said this was just another romance book,” I asked, eyes peering into hers. She shrugged. “How else was I supposed to get June Rourke to read such an interesting, sex-boosting, masterpiece,” she teased, like this was some joke.

He laughed, "I knew that was your expectation when I said fiction novels, a lot of people expect that but how on earth do you expect ME to read romance. How do you expect a mafia who is thirsty for revenge, to sit his ass down only for 'i love you's and 'i love you to the moon and back's. You must be shitting me.” “You should try reading one, to improve your attitude, you're too tough. Breathe! Read romance, maybe you'll start to see some light in life and stop being a nutjob.” I protested. He stared into my eyes, laughing. I laughed back. "You're such an asshole.”He said silently.

Alexander gasped, his eyes widening at the book. I laughed hard at his expression. He looked so shocked. How cute. "Why is there so much going on?" Alexander asked another stunned expression appearing on his face. "It's amazing, right?" I chuckled, my eyes not leaving his face. "I can't believe you chose to read this. Why would a chapter start with someone sticking a knife into another person's privates? This is too insane!" Alexander gasped. The more he complained, the more humorous the situation got. "This is what makes it a dark romance. Now, I feel more excited to read it," I said with a grin.

"Maybe that's the point." Damien watched her for a long moment. Then, with quiet finality, he said, "You're better than this. Don't let them make you forget that." "You know what would really make them choke?" she slurred, eyes glittering with spite and liquor. "If I walked in next weekend on your arm, dripping diamonds and lies. Told the whole world we're madly in love." Damien raised an eyebrow. "You're suggesting we fake date?" She hiccupped. "Not seriously. Unless you're that bored."

Shadow raised her head to smell it, her big brown eyes curious, but upon finding it to be nothing other than frustrating ideas, she resettled. It had seemed so easy at first glance. Audrey and Ray had fallen in love once; I knew they could do it again. I had buzzed through my shift, sprinted home, and hopped on the computer for research. Fast forward two hours and I had no results. Everything I found was either too complex or too reminiscent of “The Parent Trap”. I had no idea how to get these two people to fall in love, let alone how to get them in the same room. My balloon of hope and excitement was quickly deflating, reality a slow leak sinking it. "Not recently, but yeah. A friend of mind passed some around last year. I've been reading her cast-offs." Which friend? And what kind of romance books? "I read a few." He shook his head. Lumen wrinkled her nose. "You have?" "Yeah, people sent all kinds of things in care packages. There were always a few romance books in the bins for us to pick through. I figured you always see women sitting by pools, relaxing and reading one. Maybe that's what I need?" "You seriously read one?" she asked. "I read...a dozen? They gave me too much anxiety. Too much will-they-won't-they, back-and-forth business. Too personal, too high stakes, too real for me to actually relax and read."

I asked, "This is very embarrassing but yes" she said with a smile, the blood in my body went straight to my huge man between my legs, now I did say am not a reader but who doesn't know the kind of staff in Dark romance books?, I couldn't help wondering what she had so far learnt from reading about Sex, I could already imagine how she was going to blow my mind "Its not embarrassing, if you ask me, I think its cute, though I must admit, I didnt picture you being the kind of woman to read such and besides, all the time I saw you reading , it was either a fantasy novel or a children's novel" I explained
