Blue huffed, curling protectively around me, her eyes glowing with worry.
“Yeah, I know,” I whispered, resting a trembling hand on her scales. “One trial down, all thanks to you. Two to go. Someone please tell the universe I deserve a nap.”
The ground pulsed again, three orbs still circling, waiting. The second one flared red.
“Trial of Strength begins.”
And I laughed, tired, broken, and furious.
“Bring it on.”
The second orb hovered above me, pulsing a dangerous crimson. Heat radiated from it like an open furnace, and before I could blink, the forest was gone again.
