The villa was silent, the security team ghosting through the shadows of the perimeter. She reached for a knife to slice an apple when she noticed something strange on the stainless-steel surface of the refrigerator. A reflection. A small, red light was blinking rhythmically from the corner of the ceiling—one of the "unhackable" smoke detectors Rage had installed. It wasn't a standard power-on light. It was blinking in a pattern. Short-Short-Long. Short-Long-Short. Sabizina’s breath hitched. It was Morse code. V-A-N-E-S-S-A.

Then, a side of her migraine attack again added to her ongoing torment. She opened the doorknob and laid sight on the blinking red spot in the living area. The red blinking spot seemed to be from the inside of the lightbulb. The entire house had all of its lights turned off; every part was dark and quiet. The blinking red spot provided a little light onto the area when all of the other lights turned off. It was on a corner of the ceiling. With numerous lightbulbs that surround the corners, there was only a single lightbulb with the red spot. She walked towards it to have a closer look, climbed, and stood on the surface of the coffee table. The red mark on the light bulb continues to blink. S

I groaned. “We just need to walk a little more, I guess,” Thomas stated the obvious. We walked for a minute before another green light appeared at the end. This time when we reached it, I noticed that the exit was there, but the door shut when we reached it and the red light was illuminating our faces again. “This is ridiculous! Did you see that? Someone is closing the doors. We could have been out by now,” I yelled, annoyed. “Maybe it's automatic. It can detect when we are near and closes the doors to add to the fear factor,” Linda gave voice to her thoughts.

A cold silence settled over the garage and Arthur took one slow step backward. "My job ends here,” he muttered. "It doesn't," I said sharply. "We have dozens of questions,” John added. "I know,” he replied. "Then answer them,” I said and he smiled sadly. "If I stay another five minutes, none of us will leave this garage alive,” he muttered. The words had barely left his mouth when every light inside the parking level suddenly went out. Darkness swallowed the room. Only the emergency exit signs remained glowing in the distance. Then three sharp gunshots echoed through the garage.

Switching to the camera view in the elevator, Jacob decided to teach her a lesson. Lifting a a sweaty index finger, Stephie pressed the close door button, and with a beep, the doors closed. Releasing a breath of relief, Stephie then tested her luck and pressed the garage button. The button lit up, and the beep sounded overhead. Stephie waited for the whir and downward momentum, and yet nothing followed. Frowning, Stephie pressed the button again. The light came on, the box beeped, but there was no movement. Gulping in a panic, Stephie pressed the open door button, but the doors remained frozen.

“I knocked but . . .” “You knocked?” His voice dripped with derision. “I can’t hear, damn it!” Well, what was I supposed to do, then?” she responded defensively. “There’s a doorbell,” he informed, calming down marginally, and she stared at him in confusion. “A doorbell? But how . . .” her question trailed off when he pointed toward the lamp on his desk. “The lamp is rigged to flicker when the bell rings. It works for both the front door and the study door. Two flickers for outside, one for inside.”

I somehow remembered my way back to Luca's house, even though it was dark out and the rain, which was falling heavier now, hindered the visibility out of the front windshield. I pulled into Luca's driveway and stopped next to the PIN pad. After I punched in the same number that I saw Luca use the day before, the gate opened. The house was dark as I pulled up to it, the headlights of the truck illuminating the outside of the garage as I parked there and pressed a button on the remote to open the garage door. Nothing happened. I groaned as I pressed the button rapidly a few more times. The garage door still didn't move. Perfect.

“And you?“ She raised her brow, her face etched with fright. I could see the worried look on her face but, this wasn't the time to be worried. I shut the door without answering and moved to the driver seat. I started the engine.. The garage gate was still closed, but I had a remote override I had picked up from the underground. I pressed it expecting the door to open widely but, nothing happened. I pressed it again. Still nothing had happened “Goddammit.” I hissed, gritting my jaw. “Rafael must’ve cut external power.“ Tracey peeked up from the back seat, poking her head forward “What’s wrong?” “Gate’s dead.” I said bluntly. “Now what?”

POV: Declan "Shut the door, Preston," Declan said, his eyes never leaving the security log on his tablet. Preston stepped into the office, the latch clicking behind him as he adjusted his grip on a secondary file. "The house physician signed the original medical log at eight p.m., sir. He confirmed the migraine. But the garage transponder shows Bridget’s vehicle left the lower level forty minutes later." "And the gate cameras?" "Looped," Preston said, placing the printed manifest on the edge of the desk. "A twelve-minute blackout on the southern perimeter feed. Whoever took the car knew the blind spots in the lower ward tracking system."

“But I brought mints.” “Blake—” “I’m kidding,” he said, and a soft click filled the space before a dim blue flashlight glowed in his hand. “Relax. I’m not that reckless.” Ave’s glare could’ve melted steel. He grinned. “Okay. Maybe I’m a little reckless.” Thunder shook the windows again. And then— A loud mechanical click. Ave's stomach dropped. “That wasn’t—” “The security doors,” Blake said, eyes widening. “They lock automatically in storms after hours. It’s a power grid protocol.”
