I know they are watching for me and I am sure they know that I am coming for my wife. When my driver parks in front of the house, there is a light on in the house. Not a white light, it is a greenish light. Maybe someone is in business close by and that is the signal. My driver comes around, opens my door, and the light goes off, comes back on, flashes a few times, and then goes off again. That is strange. My driver shuts my door. I hear movement from the porch area and someone moving toward me. “Tibo, is that you? We need to talk,” I say in the direction of the movement on the porch area.

Well damn if he wasn't a walking hottie. I hurried back through the back and into the garage. I switched on the light before pressing the button that sent the garage gate shifting up till the guy at the door came into view. He's already in the car and was turning around to drive into the the garage. He drives in and stops after getting it parked. I pushed the button again and the garage door came rolling back down before I realized I should've kept it up for him to go out again. Oh well, I guess he could go through the inside door then.

The door slid close and immediately, the arrow facing downward started blinking red while the one facing up, went dead. Without them touching anything, the elevator started moving the moment the door locked up.

I followed Blake Johnson into the the garage to fetch the boxes. "So this looks like a normal garage," I commented as he closed the door connecting the house to the dark, cool garage. I squinted slightly due to the low lighting conditions and I felt my irises snap shut immediately he turned on the full lights. "Why wouldn't it?" I heard him ask from somewhere in the room, despite the fact that I had on his glasses, my eyes were still affected. "I don't know." I shrugged, trying to still bury the memory of what happened between us earlier deep down. Very deep down. "Everything about you is kinda weird so I expected a weird garage too, I guess."

Then the doors opened again. No one was outside. The hallway was empty, the emergency lights casting long, sickly shadows across the marble floor. I frowned and pressed the close button. The doors obediently began to shut. They opened again. I sighed, irritation mixing with the late-night fog in my brain. “Seriously?” I muttered. Maybe a sensor was faulty. I stepped forward and waved my hand through the doorway. Nothing. I hit the close button harder. The doors started to close once more. They opened again.

She was staring at the empty white oak crib when the lights didn't just dim—they died. The motion-activated LEDs didn't pulse back to life. The humming of the independent ventilation system cut out, leaving a silence so absolute it made her ears ring. "Dark?" she called out, her voice echoing off the reinforced glass. No answer. Only the red standby light on the security camera in the corner remained active, staring at her like a bloodshot eye. Then, the heavy carbon-fiber doors to the suite slid open. They didn't hiss with the usual pneumatic grace; they groaned, forced open by an override code that shouldn't have existed.

The elevator doors had just slid shut with their familiar soft chime when the lights flickered once, twice, and then died completely. For a split second, everything was pitch black. Then the emergency backup lights clicked on with a low, reluctant hum, bathing the small metal box in a dim, blood-red glow that made the space feel even smaller than it already was.
