My father's house. "The 'Dead-End,'" Kaelen whispered, standing up and pulling his furs tight around his shoulders. He looked around, his hand moving instinctively to the hilt of his knife. "The Editor didn't send us to the next chapter. He sent us to the place where the story stopped." This wasn't just a ruin. As I walked toward the remains of the Great Gate, I noticed that the shadows on the ground weren't moving with the sun. They were fixed, like ink stains on a rug.

Chapter 21 As the fated mates took their first step towards the unknown, a distant rumble echoed through the air. The ground beneath them trembled, sending shockwaves of uncertainty through their beings. A tempest brewed on the horizon, dark clouds swirling in a sinister dance. Their eyes widened in alarm as a figure emerged from the storm, a figure they had never anticipated. It was a being of ancient power and malevolence, a harbinger of chaos and despair. The realm gasped in collective disbelief, for the figure was none other than Malachi himself, risen from the depths of oblivion.

Sassy lay curled up on the bed sleeping, so I let him, sliding under the covers myself. *** The hum drives me to my knees, shaking my soul as the pounding footsteps draw closer. I lift my eyes, looking up at the Gate as it begins to glow, gathering the light of the shining moon, sucking illumination from the silvered world around me. I reach for it, desperate to stop the inevitable as the Gate pulses once. Someone knocks, as though a great fist has struck the surface, making it ring like a bell. The sound intensifies the shuddering of the ground, setting the very air to vibrate, my teeth chattering together from the assault.

He stood straight with a serious face as he began his explanation. "Ghosts are the souls of dead humans who... well, aren't ready to rest in peace. They don't have powers. All they can do is move from one place to another without being seen. Well, not by everyone though." "But... if you're a demon, why then are you in this form?" She couldn't help but ask.

Something didn’t want me here—and it wasn’t shy about it. I was an Alpha. Born to command, to kill, to conquer. But what waited past that gate… this wasn’t a battlefield. Mom told us to get ready and had us stand directly next to Grenza. ***** GRANT ‘Deep breaths,’ Ghost murmured as he stretched out in mind. ‘Angel and Athena need us to be ready for anything.’ I followed his advice and then bumped shoulders with my brother. The portal opened and we were the first ones through it. That final flash that I had seen in Angel’s mind had been about this right here. I barely even noticed the carnage all over the room because Angel was right in front of us. She looked at us as if she could not tell if we were really here or not. I popped over to her and caught her body as she passed out.

They were midway across the path, in front of a cemetery when suddenly graves started opening. "What is going on?" Isabella asked, clutching onto Chris tightly. Chris was suddenly sweating so furiously but Ariel was cool and her face was blank and devoid of any emotions. They stood there watching six tombs open and six scary-looking ghosts walked out. Isabella was already whitish in appearance knowing who they are. Chris's hairs were all up and his eyes green, his normal sight nature. "GREETINGS TO THE SPECIAL ONE." One of them muttered. "GREETINGS TO THE LITTLE GODDESS." Another muttered.

The way his father looked now—tired. They were fighting a ghost. They thought the ghost was locked in a cell at Bedford Hills. But ghosts didn't embezzle four million dollars. Ghosts didn't hire vans. "Mama said love is choosing to stay," Ethan whispered to the gray air. He looked at the rusted metal door. "I'm choosing." He walked through the gate. His sneakers crunched on the gravel. He walked up the concrete ramp. He didn't knock. He didn't have to. The door groaned. It swung inward, revealing a cavernous darkness that smelled of dust and expensive perfume.

clang… Veythar paced inside me like a caged beast, his claws dragging against my bones. 'It’s coming to us,' he growled. 'Stay alert.' I swallowed hard. Whoever or whatever was out there hadn’t shown itself for days. So why now? The gate suddenly started shaking so hard that the noise punched through my ears. I stumbled back fast, eyes wide, as the whole thing rattled like something was tearing at it from the other side. Before I could steady myself, the gate flew off its hinges and crashed to the floor with a sharp, echoing bang. Dust lifted into the air as a shadow stepped into the doorway causing me to freeze.

" I smile warmly . She giggles . " That's true . But you can only see here . No other place . " She beams at her knowledge . " What does that mean ? Is this place a beacon for ghosts ? " Jace asks . Maybe his vocabulary didn't quite get to her because she looks up at him in confusion and then gets up , running towards the stairs .
