Dangerous in the quiet‍, delibe‍rate way⁠ only certain p⁠eopl‍e can be. “M⁠rs. Hale?” she as⁠ke‌d. “Yes?” ‌She sm⁠ile‌d, and it‌ wasn’t kind.‌ “‌You don‍’t k⁠now me, but I knew your h‌u‌sband. A long time a⁠go.” M‌y heart gave a small, i⁠n‌stin‌ctive st⁠utter. “‌I see.” “T⁠ell him,” she said softly, “that ghosts do‍n’t sta⁠y buried fo‍rever.”

He stood straight with a serious face as he began his explanation. "Ghosts are the souls of dead humans who... well, aren't ready to rest in peace. They don't have powers. All they can do is move from one place to another without being seen. Well, not by everyone though." "But... if you're a demon, why then are you in this form?" She couldn't help but ask.

"Finding the bits I needed. The rest will be the worst of it. But it must be done." It was fair to say I was now totally freaked out, all the hair on my body standing at attention. "How do you plan to do this?" My voice squeaked with fright. They were only ghosts, I'd seen ghosts before. But this was different. These were people I knew. Dead people. It was suddenly very hard to breathe.

I hated how familiar it all felt. The sirens faded in the distance, followed by the sound of retreating tires. Irenic had left. They bought the lie. We were ghosts now. Just like Vera said we had to become. I wiped the muck from my mouth and forced myself to breathe evenly, knowing we had a narrow window to move before morning caught us still bleeding in this trench.

Who are you? "Ghosts," Red said. "I have to warn you about this place too. So many ghosts live there. Unrest covered this place. So many souls tried to cross over time and yet they could not go on. So they go back. "I am a ghost? "You still have your essences," Red said. "If all of them were dead and did not meet their purpose, you will join them." Elena did not know that either. It was so crazy to believe that her essences would ever survive. She saw them doing stuffs she did not even think to do by herself. She did not recognize herself in those personalities. Where did I go wrong? Elena wondered to herself.

“Mrs. Angela, we are sorry, we overheard your dialog, is it true you are leaving the shanty town?” a neighbors asked. Before she could answer another one paused a query for them “And what about our trainings? Amanda was our tutor, she used to support us a lot, my mother now comprehends the art of schooling thanks to her.” A worried voice of little boy spoke out They did not know how to retort to their inquiries. “Don’t be derailed because of my departure, I will find a way to come to you, I still hold you in my mind firmly.” She assured them.

“What do you mean?” “You lost everything that made you who you were,” I said. “You’re still here, but you’re not the same. That’s what ghosts are — people trying to remember how to live.” He stared at me for a long time, then smiled faintly. “And what about you?” “What about me?” “You talk like someone who’s seen ghosts too.” I met his eyes. “Maybe I was one.” For a moment, we just sat there, two broken pieces of different worlds, finding something that felt like peace between sips of coffee.

But your mother's about to die—I know you'll show up. Her words jolted me back to reality. I pressed a hand to my chest, where my heart ached with a dull, numbing pain. How I wished I could tell her myself. That I've been here all along. It's just that... I've been dead for four years.
