Keegan propped Bitsy up against the house and attempted the back entryway. It was bolted. Cleaning the window clean with his sleeve, he looked interior, looking for signs of an alert framework. When he didn’t see a control board anyplace, he took off his shirt, wrapped it around his clench hand, and crushed the enriching glass. Pressing his arm through the opening, he opened the entryway and helped Bitsy inside.

I just hoped I wouldn’t look too over the top compared to everyone else. I came out of the bathroom to ask Elliott how I looked and saw him sitting on the deck with a book. As I came through the French doors, I realized he was wearing glasses. Somehow, seeing my mate doing even the simplest of things made my core heat up all over again. He was so HOT. The glasses only enhanced how hot he was. I could tell by the slight furrowing of his brow that he was deeply focused on what he was reading, his chin resting on his hand as his eyes darted across the page so quickly I didn’t even know how he was absorbing all the information. Ran my fingers along the smooth wood. Whiskey. Scotch. Bourbon. Vodka. All top shelf. All expensive. And in the center, separated from the rest, a single crystal glass. It was older and unique. Unlike the others, its crystal was tinted a pale amber, and intricate patterns were etched all around the rim. I picked it up. Held it to the light. Heavy. Substantial. The kind of glass you'd use for important moments. Celebrations. Deals closed. Or proposals. My chest tightened. I turned the glass in my hands.

The air inside the luxury cabin of the Gulfstream jet was deadly, suffocating, and entirely thin. The bitter, acrid stench of liquid silver toxin radiating from the glass cylinder in Elder Corvin’s hand clashed violently with the explosive, volatile aura of wild jasmine and smoke pouring from Clara’s veins.

We led her through the labyrinthine corridors of the estate, the marble floors cold beneath our feet, until we reached the western wing. ​The "Glass Room" was a feat of architectural terror. It was a cantilevered box that jutted out over the cliffside, three hundred feet above the churning Atlantic. The walls, the floor, and the ceiling were nothing but reinforced glass. Standing in the center of it felt like floating in the eye of a storm.

It contained a single book. “Woah! This is crazy,” Roger whispered. Lazarus walked up to the book, it was in a glass protective casing. “You didn’t know this was here, did you?” Velma asked. “No, I didn’t,” he clarified. Lazarus inspected the book. “What is it?” Nigel demanded. “It’s so beautiful,” Clarke admired. Lazarus gulped when he realized what it was. “It’s the Book of The God’s.”

Fireplace, bookshelves, a half-smoked cigar, leather seating and, on one wall, a large ornate mirror. It’s around eight feet tall and five feet wide. The gilded frame is covered in floral details, but hidden amongst the flowers are small Dragon-like creatures, all with different coloured gems for eyes. It’s beautiful, and as Benny approaches it the little Dragons almost seem to look at him. He waves a hand over the glass and it fogs instantly. He grabs two small stones from a gilt bowl on a stand next to it, and draws two identical runes on them.

The trip back to the mainland felt like waking up from a bad dream, only to find your real life was worse. The clean, sharp air of the island was gone, replaced by the damp, heavy fog of Blackwood Valley. It clung to the windows of the armored car like a sick breath. And there, in the distance, the Glass House sat on its cliff. It didn’t shine anymore. In the dying orange light of the sunset, it looked like a broken piece of dirty ice, reflecting nothing but the coming dark.
