But Heather, sensing my apprehension, nudged me gently.
"Come on, Stassie," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "We need this to cut the tension." She pushed one of the glasses into my hand, her fingers brushing against mine. The glass was cool, the bubbles in the champagne rising like a string of pearls.
I took the glass from her, my fingers curling around the stem. I raised the glass to my lips, the bubbles dancing in the golden liquid. Just as I was about to take a sip, my eyes caught sight of a familiar face through the effervescent champagne.
