I glanced back at the book. Maximus the Fallen.

Cleto muttered from beside him, his arms crossed as he stuffed his face, “He has a lot to zone out about. It'll feel so shitty if I were in his position also." I glared at Cleto. “I’m right here, f*ckers,” I said, rubbing my temples as if it would help with the nasty headache I felt coming. We were at the nightclub, as I basically drowned myself in work in order to get Vittoria out of my mind. But with how frequently she popped into my mind, that was one impossible mission I was setting myself up for. The door opened and Keisha strutted in, her makeup flashy as usual while swirling a glass of whiskey in her hand.

Her eyes widened as she read the faded words etched onto it: The Curse of the Moonstone. Opening it, her hands shook, but once her fingers glided onto the pages, a strange, pungent sensation conquered her. It felt as though her hand was stuck to, almost attached to the book. She tugged on it to pull it back, but it just would not move, as the book held onto her. These pages started to glow, and from the words spilt a soft, golden light. She stared, transfixed, as the glow intensified and the letters rearranged themselves to form new words right before her eyes.

"They think they own the 'Code.' But they don't own the **Glitches**." Silas reached into his own chest. He didn't pull out a Pixel. He pulled out a **Shadow**. It was a shard of the "Null-State"—the same black, oily void that the Founder had used to "Delete" things. It was the piece of the universe that refused to be coded, refused to be marketed, and refused to be sold. "Silas, what are you doing?" I asked, a cold dread filling my heart. "I'm going to 'Corrupt' the file," Silas said.

I tell him without stopping. He raises a brow but pushes off the bar and follows me into the church room. Echo, Ghost, and a few of the others fall in step behind us like bloodhounds catching the scent of something. Of course, it can’t just be a me thing. Nothing ever stays quiet in this place. Glitch drops into his chair and taps at the keyboard, the screens lighting up in front of him. “What am I looking for?” he asks. “You able to pull news reports? Old ones?”

Adding a random book of tragedy didn't seem too bad. I pull my bag over my shoulder. Gripping it tightly, I pass by a darkened alleyway. A flick of glitter was thrown in the street. Stopping, I glance down at the sidewalk. I thought it was glitter; it was just here. Glancing down the alley, I saw nothing. My mind was playing tricks, my emotions were churned in my chest, and now it was playing with my head. I'm getting sucked into one of my father's fantasy worlds.

“do not read your own book—you might not like how it ends.” Glancing further up the case, the letter ‘G’ was carved in deeply. I scanned the books with my eyes and found myself reading the names that were painted on the spines of the books. Glenda Macon, Gregory Marsh, Gwyn Masters… Each book had a name embroidered on the spine. The books were all black, with names in a flat white. Very few books actually looked different from the others. The one named, Glenda Macon, had a rose with thorns dancing along the cover. I even noticed one that was a shade of slate grey.

He doesn’t show it to me, flipping through it himself. When he turns to show it to me, the book is named Gluttony. “I knew I’ve heard that name before. Revel is a Sin; Gluttony to be exact. Can you tell me if the man you spoke to looked like this?” he asks, leaning over to hand me the book. Swallowing nervously, I glance down at the illustration. There’s no doubting it’s him.

He started to shake as he tried to force it to obey. 'I can't circle my Ion Emergy! Its frozen!' Panicking he tried to make it stir again. Just a small stirring, then he lost all feeling. No luck. Looking at his sleeves, traces of ice started to form. "No..." Grolom's voice was almost a whimper. *Crack!* Ice patterns formed completely once he became distracted. With Zia's lack of control, it took less than a minute. A giant man popsicle shined in the sun.

Now it was my job to protect all of our kind. VENUS P.O.V... "Now, I know that I can't make you stay, but where's your heart, but where's your heart, but where's your-, and I know there's nothing I can say to change that part, to change that..." My eyes snap open to the alarm on my phone playing my favorite song, Famous Last Words by My Chemical Romance. They have been my favorite band for years. "So many bright lights, they cast a shadow, but can I speak?"
