I smile down at him but it disappears with the realization that he can't see it. "Y-yeah, maybe." But a slight smile graces Nathaniel's lips. He tilts his face up to where mine is, but just a little off-center. When he does this I nearly drop my books. His face is thin but his jaw is squared. The glasses he wore are in fact not sunglasses, but framed glasses whose lenses adjust to the lighting. And right now, they are clear and show off golden brown eyes. His eyes look different though, as if a lunar eclipse overlapped the sun, haunted, as in ghostly around the pupils.

Our sweet child was clinging to his daddy, which allowed me to look at his back easily. He did a have a mark but it wasn’t like anything I had seen. Two fierce looking eyes stared back at me. It was like only the eyes developed but nothing else. No nose, ears or anything. Black fur decorated the eyes that drilled wholes into whoever was looking at them. My fingers gently touched them and my wolf purred. There was something familiar with these eyes but still something comforting. Waylon handed me our child. His eyes were barely open as he snuggled into my arms. Going off what felt right, I moved him so he could latch. Hungerly, he started chugging down my sweet milk.

CHAPTER 54 ~GABRIELLA'S POV~ "Who... are you?” I asked with a confused expression. The female giggled then replied as she raised the hood of her cloak, “Like I said before, I'm a friend.” My eyes widened as they met hers. Her right eye was dark brown, and her left was strangely colored. I had never seen an eye so strange and beautiful in all my days. No, I had; in fact, it was only two days ago that I saw eyes similar to this one. Her eye was dark blue and had white spots that looked like stars; her pupil was white, making it look like a moon in the night sky. The only person I knew had that kind of eye was... Marie.

Alec bends to study it but still keeps his distance. The tiny creature is gray green, with a face far too wide for its body. Its eyes are black as coal, and its hands and feet are large and round like a baby's, with long, delicate fingers and toes. It doesn't stand more than a foot tall. "It might be a creature native to this pocket dimension," Alec says, eyeing the goblin warily. The creature starts to move towards us, and I take a step back. "Should we ... should we try to communicate with it?"

The arcane power ignites into a beaming knife-sized blade.

Gigi instantly followed suit, doing the same thing. I barely processed what had happened when a scream left my lips at the monster that emerged. Her form was that of a wolf that had begun decaying, skin eaten away by bacteria, exposing the bones and organs inside her on her chest and legs. Her eyes switched to night vision and glowed a terrifying red. It was as if a zombie had climbed its way to earth in order to feed on all our pups.

Then Kenny changed. Not completely. Not the dramatic Hollywood version I would have imagined if anyone had asked me to imagine it, which no one ever had because this wasn't something people imagined. It was subtler and more terrifying than that. His eyes changed first — deepening to something amber and luminous that had nothing to do with the warm brown I knew. His frame expanded slightly, shoulders broadening, presence intensifying until he filled the room in a way that had nothing to do with physical size. The air around him hummed.

This man is dangerous! Then the goblin was suddenly overcome with a sense of fear, shrouding its body causing it to tremble. “Are you lying to me?” Matthew looked down at the goblin who was only about half his height with blazing red eyes. The goblin was unable to say anything back as it was too scared. ‘I-is this his power?’ All the other goblins were also visibly shaking in fear as well. Just when they thought it was over for them, someone interfered.

“Your—your eyes.” I turn to see Gabriel back into his non-threatening form as well. “My dear, what happened?” Dammit, Olivia, Eugene barks into my mind link Your eyes. What about them? One of them is gold, like the Queen Luna’s wolf. The other—it’s purple. Herold sobs now, “it’s just like Olivia’s.”
