"Well, why don't I go put the pads away and let you guys catch up?"
"You don't have to leave," Ellie said, catching his shirt tail.
As much as River liked to hear her say that, he knew that Shelby would be more comfortable without him around. "I need to go check on a few things in the office," he explained. That was true.
"All right," Ellie said, sounding slightly disappointed. "See you later?"
"Of course," River said, so glad to hear that she was excited to see him again soon.
River went inside and took a quick shower. By the time he was done and dressed, the cut on his forehead was beginning to heal, so he didn't bother with a bandage. His ribs felt better, too.
