River says, standing, outstretching his hand that Jaeger hesitates to take.
“Really?” He asks with a raised brow and River gazes at him for a second, but he swiftly clears his throat and speaks in a less surprised voice. “I challenged you,” he points out, trying to maintain a stoic expression, and River can’t help the snicker that escapes his lips.
“You challenged my ability to comprehend your concerns. I had a job to do.” River says, and the man smiles, out of pure and genuine respect.
