At the center gleams a golden wolf’s head, bared teeth frozen in a snarl. Behind it, a raven spreads its wings wide, poised as if descending from the sky. Grimm opens it. The pages are an old, yellowish color, but intact. “Most of the Raven Wolf King books here are written to sound like fantasy, as if he were just a fairy tale. This one’s the one you want. Depicts date‑to‑date events.”

Inside: Not yet. I began scanning the shelves. Titles of all kinds filled the aisles. My hand slid across the spines at my eye level. A hard-covered green book smelling faintly of old paper drew my attention: The Origin of Elemental Sorcery. Then another—its gold embossed symbols of the four elements shimmering under the light: A History of Ignith, Hydros, Terragaia, and Glacius. Moving to the next shelf, I spotted a worn leather-bound book, edges frayed from overuse: Hybrid Wolves with Magical Signatures. And a thin one compared to the rest: The Forbidden Transition Between Elements.

As Sable delved deeper into the book, she discovered a section dedicated to elemental magic—a topic that resonated deeply with her. The pages were filled with intricate diagrams and instructions on harnessing the power of fire, water, earth, and air. Eager to put her newfound knowledge into practice, Sable ventured back to the sacred grove where she had obtained the pendant. With the crystal of eternity pulsating around her neck and the Book of Ancients clasped firmly in her hand, she stood facing a mighty oak tree.

The book was older than anything Olivia had ever seen, its cover a deep shade of maroon, almost dark enough to be black, with intricate golden symbols etched into the surface. The minute the word came of her condition I was going, it would take more than this world could offer to stop me from going to her. That fucking dragon annoys the hell out of me, but I need to admit he does seem to care for Emerald; and good job too. I had been going through their restricted library for about an hour when I found a book, a book that was dripping in power. The same power that dagger held. My hand hovers over the old worn leather binder, allowing my magic to feel the book out before I touch it.

“I would sense the magic if it were so.” I dismounted and unsaddled Coryfe as the mage sat on one of the branches of the fallen tree and drew from a bag he wore under his cloak, a small book, bound in leather, with curls of metal protecting the corners and clasping the covers shut. “We need a fire,” he said to me, his fingers stroking the cover reverently. She easily found the books she was looking for, there was one on all the level 1 magic herbs with sketches and their characteristics, another one that explained in detail every step of making magic pills and tips on how to avoid failing. There was another one that gave the formulas of all the level 1 magic pills and there were 20 of them, and finally she found one about the 8 flames and what a mage could expect to accomplish when

Before Gwen returned with the mobile ladder, I looked through the lower shelves, checking the classification badge embedded on the shelves, the type that told you what category you were at. None of the lower ones had what I was looking for and thus began my search at the higher shelves. Gwen went to the other side of the shelves and began checking too. I paused when I saw it. Magic. "Gwen! I've found it." I called out and pulled out as many as I could carry. Foundation of Magic. Forbidden Magic. Healing Magic. Magical Beings. Magic Spells. Rituals. Dark Magic. I had a total of ten books in my hand and I slammed them onto the table before plopping down on my seat to read them.
