When the music grew eerie, setting the scene for a jump scare, Alice buried her face in Adam’s chest. “This dude ain’t even scary,” Adam laughed at her. Alice, trusting him, took a brave look at the screen. “Agh,” she let out a screech of horror at the giant, pasty-faced monster. Burying her face back into Adam’s chest she cried, “He’s scary. He’s really scary.” “I could take him,” Adam scoffed. “He’s noncorporeal,” Alice pointed out. “So punching his face in might not be the best plan.”

He’d taken his sunglasses off and by the way his mouth hung open I could tell this wasn’t part of the act. The blood kept swelling. Kept sloshing and splashing. Whatever was inside kept pushing until it had pushed all the way through. A hand rose slowly from the puddle, followed by an arm. Then another hand and another arm reached out and up, searched for purchase on the floor of the stage, braced and pushed. The rest of it followed. Just pulled itself up and out like it had been in a hole or deep pool instead of a stain. It stood up, the blood it had emerged from covering every inch of its scarecrow body and rolling slowly back down to pool at its feet.

Kiki picked up the other scarf, striped in a riot of color, and placed it around the girl snowman's neck. "Here you go!" Abby handed Kiki a carrot and some red yarn This is for the nose and the lips-." Then she handed the same to her father, who was hard at work on the boy snowman. When they were finished, there were two perfectly decorated snowmen, a girl and a boy, standing in the yard. They even paced twigs in the sides for arms and the branches were so close they looked like they were holding hands. Abby was about to take off her gloves to add to the ends of the twigs, but her father stopped her.

It was terrifying. The door flew open and an energised Scarlette and Apple trooped in with wide smiles on their faces. Goosebumps spread on my skin as I imagined the way their smile would have fallen when they noticed my 'dead' body. I squeezed my hands around my body and shook my head, trying to shake off the thoughts.

He drew a few more spells, causing spiritual energy to roll off his body in waves as six scarecrows appeared around Wilbur to surround him. "Have a taste of my Dark Harvest." The spiritual flames on Maddox's body shot into the air as he burst out laughing. The six scarecrows were each around two meters tall, sporting torn straw hats and terrifying expressions. Four limbs stuck out of each of their lanky bodies, with one of those limbs holding a long, thin scythe. These scarecrows seemed to radiate a terrifying forcefield, burning with jet-black flames as they waved their burning scythes and made their way over to Wilbur.

Scarlett's eyes snapped open. Her heart hammered violently. For a second she couldn't breathe. Then she realized the scream had been real. It echoed through the pack house. Lucas was already out of bed. The entire building erupted into movement. Doors slammed open. Wolves shouted. Footsteps thundered through the halls. Scarlett grabbed her jacket and rushed after Lucas. They burst into the main corridor. Emily appeared from another hallway. Alex emerged seconds later. Fear filled every face. Then another scream echoed from outside.

Since the gate was open and the front light was on, Gabby took it as an invitation to proceed. Creeping towards the old wooden porch, she clutched her trick-or-treat bag tightly. A gust of wind rustled her cloak, sending a wave of goosebumps up her body. Shivering nervously, Gabby pulled the silky material close to her body, and stepped onto the porch. The boards creaked as she set her weight upon them. Gabby could not see a doorbell, but the door instead had a fancy brass knocker. Gabby grabbed the cold brass and rapped three times.

His touch was a rare comfort in the midst of the chaos, and I found myself focusing on his presence, trying to draw strength from it. “So, what’s your go-to scary movie?” I asked, attempting to shift my focus. Just then, a menacing figure with a knife appeared in front of us, tilting its head in a grotesque manner. I instinctively recoiled, brushing against Darius’s body in the process. The figure passed us with a ghostly grace, clearly enjoying the fear it evoked. I felt a cold shiver sweep through me, and goosebumps pricked my skin, a familiar sensation reminiscent of the unsettling feeling I got before summoning a storm.

The clothes in the bedroom closet look like they’re from the 1950s dusty workout leotards, high-waisted pants and old newspaper clippings yellowed with age. It’s like someone just left or they were erased. “Scarlett… come here… come…” Scarlett’s body went cold, frozen in place. She blinked. The faceless girl vanished. And in her place appeared a crowd of grotesque men—laughing, grinning, and horrifying. These ones had faces—but the kind that haunt nightmares. Their skin was crawling with worms. Pus oozed from open sores. It was like something out of a horror movie. Scarlett couldn’t take it. She screamed and turned to run. Her limbs felt like jelly, but she pushed through, running as fast as she could.
