I wanted to look professional, controlled, but not like I was trying too hard.
I kissed Serena goodbye before she left for work.
"I'll see you tonight," I said.
"Be careful," she said, studying my face.
"Always," I replied.
She didn't look entirely convinced, but she didn't push.
Once she was gone, I got in my car and told the driver exactly where we were going.
"The Grandview Hotel," I said. "Downtown."
"Yes, sir."
The drive took twenty minutes.
