The cold bit straight through his shredded clothes and sank into his bones with terrifying speed. “What happened…?” he whispered hoarsely, staring at the snow-covered skyline. “What the hell happened to the city?” Downtown looked dead. No traffic. No lights. No distant sirens. Only endless white snow and the mournful howl of the storm. Behind him, Lydia crawled onto the frozen driveway on trembling hands, tears streaming down her face. “It’s freezing!” she cried hysterically. “Julian, it’s freezing!” The tears on her cheeks crystallized almost immediately.

Under the queer shade of the dark sky, white fluffy dots of snow and mesmerizing crystal flakes were slowly falling in the pool of white ground.
