Cassie It’s been a month since I've been working with these rock stars but up until now, I still haven't gotten used to all the ruckus they make. For one, the pounding and strumming seems to be getting louder each day but my eardrums have luckily adjusted. If only these people would be a little more serious, I thought as I watched Landon jump up and flail all around the room. It's obvious the kid was playing around.

I ran in a frenzy with screams and shocks, and my footsteps hit the void, somersaulting off the terrace. That's when I realized that there is still a physical force that exists. Gravitation. Gravity pulls me down with tremendous speed, and the dark gray pavement below eagerly awaits my bloody battle. As if instinctively, a jet stream was pushed out from my abdomen, I screamed with all the remaining strength of my life.

He bared his neck at me as I pinned him down, his way of submitting to me and giving up. We continued onwards, our paws trudging deep into the fallen snow until we finally came to the Alaska Gletscher. We were about two miles from a campground. I could smell the humans down there still celebrating late into the night. “Which way do you want to go back?” James asked me. I thought about it for a while and then had an idea. “Let’s go scare the kids down by Grayling Lake.” James made a low rumbling sound in his chest, similar to a human laugh. “Really Kiran? Scare the kids?”

He was sitting there as if gravity meant nothing to him. I pushed the door open a little wider and stepped further out onto the balcony, my mouth slightly agape in shock as I tried to see the person’s face clearly. But before I could make out any distinct features or recognize who he was, he moved. With a sudden, fluid motion, he leaped off the railing and jumped straight down toward the ground below—from the second floor! My heart leaped into my throat. No!

*Maybe if I land this clean, the universe will finally let me stay somewhere. Manual the entire street → casper flip → manual again → 360 hardflip. *Please. Just once. Let me keep something.* See the death gap. *Fifteen feet. No one’s made it. Perfect.* Carve, backside 180, launch. *If I fall, at least the ground will catch me. It’s more than people ever have.* Mid-air, grab mute, slow 360. *For one second I’m flying and no one can take this away from me.*

The fall was more than something he could control. He couldn’t stop the scream that forced itself out of his mouth as he found himself struggling against the force of gravity. His body hit the window guards from the top most floor and his head also hit one of the opened window glasses and continued downward until it got to the middle floor at the fourth second where it hit another opened glass window, all this slowing down his movement and increasing the pains of his fall. He closed his eyes in anticipation of his death as he continued falling.

I just finished reading the last book when I started to write Descent for real! The title when this was still a draft was actually ‘Can’t Help Falling (In Love With You)’ because I was listening to the same song only the dark version at the time. But I got annoyed because I felt it was too freaking long to be a title. For a time, I settled calling the story "Fall from Grace" in my head but it still felt wrong... so when I searched for a synonym, the meaning of the word descent.. clicked; it feels like it perfectly sums up the entire plot.

An obsidian stone is inside my seal, and the guards fall over themselves to let us inside once they know who I am. The wall is ridiculously tall, made of thick, reinforced steel. I crane my neck back, move my hair back to see it all. The portly guard pulls a lever, and a portion of it lowers. Clunky and groaning, the ice flys out, the gate forcing its way open. The gate lowers completely, warm water slowly trickles out, and the inside of Estate Eclipse is steaming. I grab onto Dante and he helps me past the blocks of ice until we cross the other side of the gate.

It didn’t matter in the face of death. My head jerked to the right, founding the blade glistening. Looking at him, my hand reached for the blade. One second, two seconds, three seconds… “When you wake up in the other world, you’ll be thanking me, Winter.” And I struck the blade to his face, eliciting a roar from him. Bang~ The door to my doom opened, and so many people dragged me like I was nothing. Their eyes scrutinized me as if I was a skilled killer. A scream echoed throughout the path. Gone was the respect in their eyes. What I am now is just a fallen Luna.
