Grendel had given up on the attachment with the bowl and the cloud was hovering at shoulder height giving her some clarity of what I saw. I slowly pushed the door open and it collided against the wall. Thankfully there was nobody around or the workers would have come rushing in. I peeked in through the mesh of vines and chains and tried to see what was inside. It was dark and a foul smell made me wrinkle my nose in disgust. Chapter 47 – Fire and Serpents The world exploded into chaos. Raven’s flames blazed across the clearing, cutting through the mist and forcing Selene’s horde back. The silver fire licked along the ground, weaving through roots and stone, swallowing shadow-beasts whole. The smell of scorched flesh filled the air, but still the creatures pressed forward, driven by Selene’s command. Ragnar’s blade rose and fell beside her, each strike cutting a path through the writhing serpents.

I closed my eyes and just absorbed the moment wanting to remember it. Suddenly the sounds of paws hitting the forest floor overwhelmed me. Then in a flash, the forest was ignited with flames. Everything glowed vibrant oranges and reds as heavy smoke smothered me from above. I threw myself to the ground, desperate for any trace of clean air. As I attempted to crawl out of the flowers, new sounds began to harmonize; screams, howls, and cries for help terrorized me.
