"This is military-grade, multi-layered 'ghost' coding. It’s designed to self-destruct if I try to force the door. One wrong keystroke and the whole drive turns into a paperweight."

No attempts to fix it. Just silent company in the dark.

I pulled out my comm crystal from the inside of my jacket, flicked it open with shaking fingers, and whispered Jude’s code. Nothing. Static. Shit. They were jamming the signal.

“The game’s on.” “Aren’t you some sort of computer whiz?” I blurt, and Jase’s eyes snap up to mine. He wrings his hands in front of him nervously, knuckles going white. “Uh, yeah, I guess.
