Five years after my younger brother Luca and my fiancée Elena were killed in an ambush, I arranged my own burial at sea. I was pressing the engraved nameplate onto my custom urn when my father, Don Salvatore Leo, walked into the room with a cigar between his lips. "Antonio, you don't need to go to the docks to mourn them this year. They're not dead." My fingers went white around the nameplate. Then the hidden door in the safe room opened from the inside. Luca walked out with Elena in his arms, casually spinning the emerald ring I had once given her around his finger. "I won the bet," he said, lazy about it. Griffin’s POV The shadows had never felt heavier than they did now. They weren’t just around me, they were on me, inside me, dragging me down like someone had tied slabs of concrete to my limbs. Every breath was a fight and each heartbeat slower than the last. I couldn’t fight anymore. Not like this. My body was too torn, too drained. And right when I thought the shadows would swallow me whole… They screamed. Not a normal scream, nothing close to human. This sounded like something ripping itself apart. Like a thousand echoes clawing through walls. It shook the ground beneath me, shook the air, rattled whatever was left of my bones.

PIXIE I tried to blink the dark spots from my vision, trying to understand that the pain wasn't from Griffin sinking his teeth into my neck; it was his weight that had slammed into my injured body. Amber had charged at him, breaking free of the fear that he held over her and tackling him to the ground. Griffin howled in shock, his pain splitting into a snarl as he spun mid-fall and tore into Amber's exposed throat. He ripped her off of him and threw her across the room, staggering away from me. I spotted the silver glint of a scalpel protruding from his broad back.

WIth a gross crunch and release of tension, his ear breaks free and I allow the others to pull me off him. I stumble back and spit the floppy piece of flesh on the dirt-covered ground and quickly cover it with my foot, pressing it further into the ground to ensure there is no reattaching that shit. He Howls in pain, holding his exposed and bloody ear hole. Marc gets in between us and gives me a shove. I look him dead in the eyes and offer him the prettiest bloody smile I can muster, and he spits in my face. “Fuck you!” Graham screams over Marc’s shoulder. ”When you are dead. I’m going to find your bitch and spread her wide. I’ll even let her scream your name while I fuck her.”

Dead. My throat feels scratchy, I fight to keep the contents I had eaten inside. I'm close to spewing when the images shift to a different kind. Their pictures of what the sheriff's department wrote on the massacre. His father's name slides into the screen, and Griffin turns into a pile of wood. I can feel the tension flowing through his muscles. The rigid shift of his jaw. "I'll go through the photos on my own, but I'll send you a copy of the files I downloaded. You can go through those, text me if you see anything. We'll be in touch."

He laughed hysterically as he found relief that he didn't need to think that much about it now. Luna was gawking at the creature who let loose of a loud guffaw in front of her. It sounded so terrifying. Even with the chilly air and raindrops touching her skin, beads of sweat still managed to form on her arms as panic started to rise in her chest again. "Stand up now Luna." ❇❇❇ Schnek was approaching the laughing Fragado while carrying his capsule. He saw a being on the ground. "A normal?"

"My father set a trap for your entire line! Kaelen and I cut the winch!" "I don't care about the winch!" Gryfyn roared, his voice echoing off the high stone peaks like a clap of thunder, completely drowning out the sound of the screaming blizzard. He lowered his face until his nose was brushing against mine, his thumb pressing hard into the hollow behind my ear, anchoring me to his mouth with possessive, terrifying strength. "I care about you climbing down an icy mountain on a warhorse! If you had fallen off that cliff, Vira, I would have burned every living thing in the South to ashes!"

I t was like I was being stabbed with a red-hot knife that was being twisted. I double over and sink to my knees, but before I fully ended up on the ground, two strong arms wrapped around me and picked me up. I curl up in his arms more and more as the pain increases. I scream down the mate bond. "PHOENIX!!!" As Griffin runs through the pack, everyone else goes to their knee. I hear him yell, "Doctor! DOCTOR HARPER! I NEED YOU NOW!!"

I panicked and I resisted him with all my force. "I don't care" he gritted his teeth and I felt his grip tightened. I was scared and my nerves were shaking in fear. I couldn't believe that Denver was kind of psycho. "Denver, let me go!" I used all my force but I couldn't fight.
