Slowly, reverently, he pulled out an ancient tome, and placed it gently on the table next to the pumpkin. The library was deserted, but I still looked around warily as he showed me the book. The Hawthorn Central Library was split over two floors, and the only other person I’d seen so far was the librarian, sat by the door downstairs, a shrivelled old man wearing a spotty tie and a striped suit. He’d given us a rheumy-eyed smile and a little wave, his thin hand almost see-through in the musty light. His eyes had brushed over Skye, lugging around a huge pumpkin, but he hadn’t questioned it. I’d asked him politely if there was a section for folklore, or old myths, and he’d pointed me upstairs.

“Daddy will chase the monster away.” The basement stairs creaked under my weight. The air grew damp and cold, carrying the familiar smell of concrete and forgotten Christmas decorations. I swept the beam across dusty shelves, old furniture covered in sheets, and stacks of boxes labeled “C9” in black marker—my wife’s obsessive filing system for holiday stuff. Nothing. No glowing eyes, no claws, no growling shadows. Just silence and cobwebs. “Nothing here, Lily!” I called up the stairs, my voice echoing slightly. “Just junk. Come down tomorrow and I’ll show you.”

Not just words spilling out this time. Scenes. Creatures. Hazards. One thick volume labeled CASTLE HAZARDS struck a stone, flipped open, and vomited a swarm of translucent, wailing shapes—castle ghosts, their eyes hollow, fingers like icicles. They shrieked and arrowed toward us in a ragged storm. Another book, NEON DRONE PATTERNS, burst against a fallen shelf. Drones extruded from the pages like wasps from a nest, metal bodies shining, eyes already lighting up with target locks.

“It’s not.” There was a beat. Then another. When she didn’t continue, I scowled. “What are you not telling me?” Nora bit the inside of her cheek, like she was measuring how much she could get away with sharing with me. Then she dug around in her satchel before pulling out an old, leather-bound book. The binding was worn and cracking, and the cover was faded with the crest of House Aurelian. She opened it carefully and turned the pages with a brittle whisper before pausing.

I was curious, my instinct pushed me until I noticed the symbols. Noah stepped past me into the small hidden room. His eyes scanned everything, the pile of ashes on the stone floor, the simple wooden desk, the other journals still sitting there. He picked one up, brushing dust from its brown leather cover. "My grandmother's books," he said, his voice strange and distant. "People called her crazy. She would talk about magic, about ancient symbols, about powers that shouldn't exist." He looked from the ashes to my face, his gaze sharp and questioning. "But what really happened here? Why is a book burnt?.

The Book didn’t whisper that night; it screamed through the stillness of the house. Autumn jolted awake at precisely 3:33 a.m., her heart racing as she blinked at the sight before her. The Book pulsed with a ghostly light at the foot of her bed, its pages fluttering violently like trapped birds, despite the windows being securely shut against the autumn chill. The pendant that hung around her neck, an ornate piece of silver filigree, felt uncomfortably cold against her collarbone, as if it were absorbing the warmth from her skin.

Noah Noah strode into the library, his eyes immediately searching for Hannah. She should have been here by now, but… “Once upon a time…” He heard her voice coming from around a corner, and followed it. A moment later, he found her sitting on a small stool in the center of a circle of children. She was holding up a picture book with one hand and wearing a dragon puppet on the other. The children watched with rapt fascination as Hannah told the story. Noah leaned against the wall with his arms folded across his chest, listening to her do all of the voices for each character.

I came back in the library to get the book, I brought it to my room to read it again even though I'm not sure if it's still blank but I'm hoping to find out more about it and to know how to unlock every pages of it, I think there's a secret word, button or something in it. And to my surprise the first page already has it's content but it's different now from the last thing that I've read, hell! How can it possibly do that? I tried reading it and it says that i can read the whole content in the night of a blood moon which is my birthday. And there are only few creatures that can read it, a destined creature needs to have a hold of this book.
