Well, all that was bullshit… I pushed through the glass doors, already reaching for my phone to call Brenda, to tell her I’d be home earlier than expected and then I stopped. Because I walked straight into him. The impact was solid, firm. My breath caught as I stumbled back a step, my hand instinctively shooting out to steady myself, only to meet something warm. Strong. His body and face were heavily scarred as if they were evidence of some war he had been in. "And who might you be?" Hank turned his attention to me. "She's nobody!" Another vandal whispered something to Hank. His eyes widened. "Ah, is this the little bird I keep hearing about rolling around town with you, Max? What a gorgeous little girl! So fragile, so breakable," Hank said, his smile disappearing slowly as he said each word. The last few words sounded like a threat.

Scarlett frowned. "And you are?" The man immediately smiled. "I'm Hank Sully, from Shield Base. Your brother, Malcolm, set us up." Scarlett fell silent as she took in the man standing in front of her. He was shorter than she was, with a thinning hairline that had already started losing the fight. She wasn't exactly shallow, but what the hell was wrong with Malcolm's taste? Where had he even found this man? He was so short, he barely looked taller standing than she did sitting down.

The remaining six, after some hesitation, accepted the offer. Before they set off this morning, the foreman gave them a glass of wine to steady their nerves. After all, none of them had ever done anything this wrong before, and they were all nervous about what was to come. One man, named Hank Carter, drank the entire glass. Normally timid, he had a sick dad at home and a wife who had just given birth to their third child. He desperately needed the money, so he gulped down the drink to gather the courage to go through with it. The others sipped at their drinks lightly, but none of them seemed as affected as Hank.

He was a regular at my lessons. He never participated, but he came to watch all the time. The General would stand there and shout orders and yell at the men, he was one of the higher ups in the organisation. It felt wrong but he would not take anything from me. I headed to the kitchen and made a hot drink. The warmth settled me. My house was too busy for my liking. I offered Logan a drink which he gladly accepted. As we were drinking there was another knock at the door which was unexpected. I froze, gripping my hands against the counter.
