Elias Ward The news reached me before the afternoon light had fully settled. “Sir,” my butler informed, his voice low and precise as always. “Sir Adrian Hawthorne deviated from his usual route during lunch.” I paused mid motion, the pen hovering above my notes. “Where?” I asked. “A cafe near the boutique Miss Lucy works at.” The room seemed to tilt, only slightly. I closed my eyes. So Adrian had moved earlier than expected. “How long?” “Approximately twenty minutes, sir. He paid for two drinks and desserts. He approached her while she was alone.”

Adeline’s pov I tried not to cry again. This was something my tear ducts were used to, it was almost a routine to watch it dry up and so I sucked in the tears and thought happy thoughts. Thoughts that comprised of the good old earlier days. Looking back to the sequence of events which brought me to that house of brooding mystery, of sinister undercurrents and disturbing echoes. I sat on a wooden bench I had found as I became lost in thought all alone in the darkness.

Adeline's POV I sat in the room, my face buried in my palms. I sighed, staring at the drives in my hand each labeled with my name and Aiden's. At the back was written, Memory Bank. Yesterday, I found this in uncle Thane's room after a long search. I pulled out the laptop from the drawer, inputting the drive that has my name labelled on it. Just as I put it in, my head rang with an headache, one that nearly ran me crazy. I feel to the floor, grabbing my head then, the forgotten memories came in like a rush almost ripping off my brain.

panic begins to rise in my mind as I realize that we have left the borders of the Kingdom. Adeline stops in her tracks and her hackles raise along her back. A deep growl rumbles in her chest as she lowers her body to the ground in a defensive stance. Up ahead a large black wolf steps out of the darkness into the moonlight. His silvery-blue eyes stare at me as he growls at Adeline. Taking small steps forward Adeline continues to growl at the massive black wolf. He is easily twice our size. "Adeline," I yell at her through our mind. "Are you crazy?"

I watched him drive away again. I thought it was prudent to follow my routine to the T. Get up, have breakfast, go to college, have David tell Adeline everything—how it was supposed to be. Or rather, how Adeline wanted it to be. I would stay in her sight at all times. The moment Patronus was out of danger, all it would take was a jump from the balcony, and I would be free. Sounds easy, but I wouldn’t be here if it were that simple. The moment I stepped foot in Anderson Mansion, Adeline was waiting in the lobby with a sour, twisted expression, fuming.
